    Hi Shelley,

I've sort of blended what I've learned from PP and Atkins together to come up with a woe that works for myself and dh. Frankly, they are so meshed in my mind that I couldn't tell you which is from what protocol

My first experience with LC was about 5 years (and a lifetime) ago. I stuck with the plan, Atkins induction for 3 weeks and then PP for about 9 months, thereafter. I was also doing 3 90 minute gym workouts a week for the last 6 months.

I was within 5 pounds of my goal when major life changes helped to distract me from what was working very well. I reverted to my old bad habits and over a period of 4 years, the weight crept back on.

DH and I have been on our 'blended' plan since 3/30 and have both lost a few pounds. He's lost more inches in his waist than I, but I've lost more weight. We are both losing pretty slowly, but since this is a forever thing, and neither of us has a huge amount to lose, that's not causing us any grief. We've just added a gym routine to our lives and will see more benefit from that, I'm sure.

I'm sure enjoying the forum. I lurked around on the old one, but never posted til this weekend... I've gone SPOD (Several Posts On a Day) since delurking. While I am a newbie in many senses, in experience, I'm an oldbie<G>.

I've enjoyed reading your posts in the other categories.

    Ginger,

Hi!!! and welcome to LCE...glad you "de-lurked" LOL

I did Atkins also, from Jan to July of this year and lost and gained the same 7 lbs over and over and over and over...
I was to the point of tears...and some days, still am, about why this WOE is not working weight loss wise for me. I love this woe, and I feel soooo much better with more energy, NO heartburn and just over all feel better. I also exercise with fitness walking and weight training. Although, I am thinking of dropping the weight training for a while and just doing the walking, as it is something I love to do and weight training is more of a dreaded chore at the moment...hehe.
Anyway, I agree, I think I have kind of blended Atkins and PP and while I'm not losing, I am maintaining, which isn't a bad thing I guess.
And this has probably been more than you wanted to know, huh???....LOL

Anyway, glad you stopped by...post often and let us know how you and DH are doing

    Shelley

PS: I am going to start a journal today, since it is the beginning of a new month. I'm hoping for input from others...I think there is something holding me back with my weight loss...I just don't know what it is.

To all of you, I chose to check this forum out of curiosity because it was named South Beach. After reading & discovering that it was the PP plan, I decided to read what was here. Shelly I too am strugling since Aug 14th. Same damn 5-7 lbs. I too am deciding that this is a new month, am fighting my own demons. I will tell you from experience, its our child hood, stigmas that have been planted within our psyche. If I can control my demons within my head & get over the fact of removing my second self that covers my thin self, I will have been successful. I HAVE BEEN THIN MANY TIMES IN MY LIFE, I know what I look like ( & I love it ), but when someone acknowledges my weight loss I just fall off. (Most of the times I have lost weight dangerously). By reading most of the stories by the most veterans of the LC woe, especially April, I trully can relate. Been there done that. April should remember the Nurse's office when we were children. I would cringe getting on that scale, because all my class mates would be there & she would yell out my weight, and they all would laugh & giggle. I have never forgotten that. With this site, (thank-god I found this by accident)& reading everyones' statements I have found a community that is helping me to at least live with my inner self & find control. I remember from another topic, I can't remember that person who wrote it but thank-you any way it was: they remembered a song-I get knocked down but I get up again, well that was what I needed to realize yes that is me. I keep stumbling but i will get it right, I will perservere, & I WILL GET IT RIGHT & WILL BE SUCCESSFUL.

LOL.......This is probally, more than either of you wanted to know. Any way I still will peruse this site, because all of you help me too.

Keep plugging through & we all will get through this & we all will accomplish our goals, it may take time, but thats what its all about; learning....

    J Meroni,
FWIW, I guess miserey loves company although I hate to see anyone struggle the way I've been stuggling. Each day is a fight to the bitter end; everything I put in my mouth, I wonder..."is this what is causing me to stall, fail?" I drink water until I slosh when I walk...LOL...I write everything down...I just don't know what else to do. But whatever else there is, we can do it together. Let's try and keep this thread going, ok? I think we may be kindred spirits of sort
Good luck in the new month...and if you find your way before I do...give me a shout...LOL
I will not give up, damnit!!!

    Hiya Folks,

It's interesting what you say about the Atkins plan when you started, Shelley... about losing the same 5-7 lbs over and over. My body seems to have set-points where I stall and see saw back and forth for WEEKS. I'm there right now, as a matter of fact. I don't have a whole lot to lose, and everyone says the closer to goal you are, the more slowly it goes. I've been bopping back and forth with 149-151 since the first of August. I just can't seem to break through the bottom barrier. The same thing happened with 150 though and eventually, the scale finally nudged on down. Losing 10 pounds in 4 months isn't gonna set any records in this group, for sure!

If I followed pure Atkins, the answer to the stall would probably be to go back on induction. I don't like that option<G>... so I'll just hang in there until my metabolism decides it's ready to acknowledge another pound gone.

The truly important thing is how much better I feel and that my body is in a more healthy state. I'm a type 2 diabetic, but this WOE allows me to control my blood sugars with my diet (no meds!), I also have high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol... or at least I did when I started. I go back for a recheck of those things next month and fully expect the numbers to be greatly improved.

I have ALWAYS been just a little to the side of heavy... pudgy little girl to a softly rounded teen to a somewhat plump adult. I'm 5ft 3 and so the extra 25 pounds I'm hauling around is, as a percentage, fully 20% of my recommended body weight. I don't have nearly as many pounds to lose as many in the forum, but with my health issues, I certainly have as much to gain in getting it right

Speaking of getting it right... it's time to go into the kitchen and stir up a couple omelettes to get dh and I started on our day.

Y'all have a great Labor day!

    Ginger,
I know what you mean with the set point theory...I just wished my body had remembered set point as the time I was at 143!!!...LOL
I too, was pretty much a "pleasingly plump" little girl, teen, young adult, middle age...I'm stopping here...I refuse to admit anything past middle age....gadzooks....that sounds old!!!!!
Anyway, keep posting and we'll help each other.
BTW...did you join the "lose 25 lbs by Christmas" challenge?

On the old site's forums, there was one for "Other" low carb plans like Protein Power and Sugar Busters. Then actually, the SBD folks started posting on that one also, and it ended up pretty much the "anything goes" board.
Anyway, yes, I'm going to work really hard in the challenge and see what happens
Have a good wt loss week!

Yep, I joined the Christmas challenge. I'll have to fight really hard to make it, I'm afraid. I'm 14 pounds from goal... or at least my PRESENT goal of 135. Those flippin charts say I should be at 110-115 but I don't think that will be a healthy weight for me. I'll have to see how I feel at 135 and then decide if I need to lose more to be in optimal health. How I feel and my long term health is way more important than any numbers on any chart<G>.

And J Meroni, I used to HATE those weight checks in school. They subjected us to them up through Jr. High.... 13 years old and having my pudgy body subjected to announcements of how overweight I was. Truly nasty to be sniggered at by those (in my eyes) Twiggy-esque teenie queenies....

Ah, yes the brilliant memories of the 'good-ole-days'

    Hi all,
I just wandered in here and saw that everyone seems to have the same problem as me, so I decided to post here. I have been on this woe since July 7 and have lost about 4lbs and I seem to be gaining them back. I love this woe, but I really want to lose some weight too. I am very discouraged and as a result I haven't been pushing my water intake as much the past few days. I have only cheated once on this woe before this weekend. This weekend I sneaked in a little more carbs than usual, but don't think I went over my allowable amount. Still I don't seem to lose. Anyway, because I like this woe so much I will stick it out longer.

My husband and I just went to into business for ourselves too. We now sell some health products and some South Beach diet products as well as lots of other stuff, but we are working on our website and it is not up yet so this has added a little stress to my diet. We have started taking the products we sell and they are terrific.

Anyway, if you guys figure out why you are not losing, please share. I really need a few pointers. Thanks all.

    Shawny,
Glad you stopped by...you might as well hang out with us here...we're a friendly group
Also, if you haven't done so already, you might want to check out febe's "lose 25 lbs by Christmas" challenge. As to why we are having a hard time with weight loss, who knows? I think when you are at your wit's end(I am anyway), it's good to have the support of folks who are going through, or who have been through the same thing. So, misery loves company...LOL
    Hang in there!

    Hi Shawny,

Welcome to the board. I've just about figured out that I'm losing slowly because I'm pretty close to my goal... and I think I'd dropped below the number of carbs my body needs. I'm adding a few more veggies and we'll see how that goes.

The things I'm doing to be sure I will be successful are:

    a) drinking my 1 gallon of water every day
    b) back in the gym for 3 visits a week
    c) counting my carbs again instead of estimating them.
    d) chanting charms to the whoosh fairy<G>
    e) realizing that my body will adjust and slip back into the groove of losing when it is ready

I'll probably re-read my books (again) and see if I see anything to tweek a bit.

    Ginger,

Now, why didn't I think of the "D" reason on your list...duh.....that's probably the reason I've been stalled since February!!!! I'll start chanting immediately....ohmmmm, ohmmm, ohmmmm, bop bop be bop, bop boom bang!
Ummmm, I don't think the Whooooosh fairy is listening....LOL

    Jean:

"I get knocked down, but I get up again...they ain't never gonna keep me down..."

That was my mantra for when I started this. And it still is.

Thank you so much for your kind words about me here and on my web site. Yes, I remember well the nurse's office at school and being made fun of for my weight in front of my peers. I hated it. I hate the memory.
