Default WW and LC

I am trying to psych myself up to do LC and WW again. I like the WW Core plan (see link)

http://p087.ezboard.com/fdottisweig...cID=21874.topic

but haven't gone back to it, because I like certain types of Asian food that are not on the plan. If I do a high-fat version of LC, it makes me run over the WW points.

In general, www.dwlz.com has a lot of informatioin for anyone interested in participating in this thread.

In the past, I did mostly a combination of a LF CAD/CALP with good success. (I had lost around 80 pounds while on WW before, but gained a bunch back.

Anyone else.....?

Hey Ilse!

I am so in on this!!! I have been following WW for about a week now and things are good. I am watching my carbs and fat intake... Also have started a good exercise program combining both cardio and weight training. I also play hockey 2X per week right now.

Last week was a good week for me. I am following the FLexPoints plan, and keeping my carb intake from 80-100 grams per day. I used all my flexpoints last night and it was awesome!

Here's to another great week !!

How are you doing? How much have you lost on WW/LC?

regards,
Krystyne

Hey Krystyne!

I have been fluctuating a lot recently. Overall, I am at just over 100 pounds lost from my highest weight.

I have arthritis in both my knees so I swim for exercise. I swim M-F for 45 minutes at a good, moderate pace. I don't push myself more as I heard a moderate pace is more fat-burning.

I don't like to paper journal, but do have a PDA I can journal on.

Whitney,

When I was doing WW and LC before, it was doing the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet (CAD/CALP). They work quite well together. Also, for a while, I was doing the Michael Thurmond 6-week Diet Makeover (and got to my lowest weight for a long time) and WW. It's hard to stay on the proper points if eating high fat.

My problem was that I got tried of watching everything and gained weight back.

I keep saying if I gain after one full month of no cheating but counting cals and keeping carbs low then I would switch to WW. I have 2 good friends who have lost very well on WW. I only lost 12lbs and then I switched to atkins and that is when I first lost my weight and got down to 130. Then I had my daughter and got down to 120! My goal is 110 but now I am back up to 125.5. I upped my cardio and began to gain. It was either the cardio or the LC pb! I think it was both.
I am getting a little bummed about Atkins. Heck I know it works but I think the thing for me is that I need to keep cals low in order to lose.
I hated counting all the points on WW though! Core sounds perfect!

I think I would be worried that I would gain weight back though

I count calories by knowing how much a serving of each food group is in calories. Each morning I decide how many calories for that day by deciding how many serves of each food group I'll have. Its easier than counting individual calories. I also keep carbs, fats and sodium low and no added sugar (or substitutes) I have animal protein 3 times a week and use only low fat dairy (yoghurt, sheep feta and shaved parmesan cheese) and keep to 3 serves of nuts/oils/seeds and one egg per week. I use heaps of fresh herbs for flavouring. Exercise is a premium for me and I do 2 hours daily. The keys to my plan are small (and measured) portions of everything and huge variation. The measuring is not as boring as it sounds, it takes about a week to do it all automatically. Since Easter this year - I've dropped approx 18 lbs - with no effort, no hunger and no side effects and I feel great with heaps of energy and sleep like a log! (my grocery bill went down to a quarter of the cost too! AND I'm 63 - at this age - its not that easy to loose weight!) I orginally lost 70 lbs on just low carbing - and gained back about 12 after 3 years and it was a struggle all the way - with tiredness, irritability, headaches and sleeplessness. This is the way for me!! :bear:

Yesterday, I went to a party for all the TA's in our district. The food mostly wasn't very LC or point friendly. I had some of it. I'm bloated still today. I have my WW meeting tonight. I am expecting a gain. (it's been a yo-yo thing for the last few weeks)

Its so irritating to go to functions where there is little one can eat! If I eat inappropriate foods now I feel distinctly uncomfortable and as if I'm not functioning properly. A good diet really does make a huge difference to the way I fly!

I did have a gain, as expected. I bought some of the WW Smoothie mixes (all four flavors). They seem expensive, but I am willing to spend more than that on one smoothie at Jamba Juice, so the price is relative. This morning I bought some Lactose Free FF milk and some FF organic yogurt. I want to try some smoothies and see how filling they are. I also got some Walden Farms SF, calorie free chocolate sauce to add to my smoothies. The leader also suggested peanut butter in the chocolate smoothie, but that's a red light food for me, so I didn't buy any.

I have a Vita Mix, so I can get a really good blend on this stuff.

I have a smoothie for breakfast sometimes (other times too). I just use half cup no fat soy milk, tablespoon lowcarb/low fat mueslie, tablespoon low fat yoghurt, dash of real vanilla essence and a piece of fruit of my choice. I usually have banana but I know lots of posters feel they are high in fat/carbs - I don't have a problem with them myself. I give the whole lot a good whizz in my blender and sprinkle cinnamon on top. I can go from 7.30am till noon on my smoothie and that includes my 2 hour exercise regime - with a 5-6 k walk.

I looked at Jenny Craig when I was younger - didn't get anywhere with it though. In fact, I didn't get anywhere with any of them until I committed myself to doing my own research and put my own program together. I was appalled when I realised how little I understood about nutrition, particularly the different food groups and their functions. Once I got all that straight and designed a process that showed me EXACTLY how much I should be having in a portion - I have no problems at all. What does really amaze me is how I lost weight at all before!

My feelings are that yes I personally need to do some sort of LC not just low fat. I am just not sure if Atkins is the way for me anymore. I am stuck and to be honest I have gotten bored. I feel like I should be watching more cals then over worrying about carbs.
I am still not sure if I should do ww and LC or maybe ediets where they tell me what to eat. That way I knoow exactlly how many cals that I am eating. I do use Fitday but I feel like I am addicted to it with measuring everything out!

Oh welll...

I found that measuring everything out to count calories didn't work for me - I got bored with it too. However, I made an EXCEL spreadsheet and was able to download a large list of food groups with calories/amounts etc already measured from the internet. Then I added my own brands and calculated those. Now I work on how many serves of which food group will make up my daily calorie intake. I'm doing the DASH DIET to some extent (but not so many carbs) so do need to watch sodium, carbs, fat and sugars) so I need to carefully control portions (too much food is where I think I got all the weight from in the first place - not so much WHAT I ate, but how much of it!) After about a week of measuring from my spreadsheet printout - now I know automatically how much I can have in a portion of any food group and I combine them to ensure I have all the food groups. I can easily subsitute in recipes too - so get a great variety of foods. Naturally, that won't suit a lot of folks - but I've lost 20lbs, with steady loss, since Easter with no problems - and I don't have the side effects of other diets I've been on. Its finding the right weight management program that suits one's own metabolism and lifestyle I guess!
