Cool what do you think?

A gal that works with me came back from her doctor today ... who advised her that she would never be able to drop a single pound .... even though she has been eating a healthy low carb diet for a month ... he said her genetics are stopping her from dropping ...... she is very discouraged ..... and I don't want to believe this is the truth ...... but how often does this happen?

from my discussions with professionals, VERY VERY seldom.

I mean, at SOME point she'd lose weight, but the calories might have to be so low as to be unbearable, or the carbs absolutely zero...

What I would tell my friend to ask is:

"On what medical information about me are you basing the statement that my 'genetics' are stopping me from losing?"

That sounds like a bold (and strange) statement for a heath care professional to make. I would have liked to be in on that conversation to know what led up to this statement.

I tend to agree with you both .... it seems pretty bold to say "never" ..... I am doing my homework here and will see what I can find out for her!

I can add this much to your research. Those of us with insulin resistance (which is often genetic in origin if it results from a familial tendency to type 2 diabetes) have a much slower time of it than others. It took me almost 2 years to get where I wound up. I had to lose about a third of myself. Fortunately, I didn't have a specific goal weight in mind, other than "losing 20 lbs or so" so I wasn't in a hurry. Got here anyway.

this info will be interesting, and I am sure insulin plays a major role. My dr. once told me I couldn't lose weight also, but boy did I prove him wrong!! I went from 234 pounds down to 161...I will be watching for the info.. it should be interesting.
