| Is popcorn really so bad? Healthy Choice popcorn seems to be a reasonably healthy alternative to potato chips and all things salty. I may be reading the nutritional label wrong, but it seems that the calories, fat, and carbs are fairly low when popped. Why the aversion? |

| I suspect that the "caution" sign on popcorn is there for a couple of reasons. All corn products tend to be higher on the glycemic scale than many other foods. I know this is true for me (being a BGL tester). The other thing is that the purported serving size is rather small. A medium size bowl of popped corn - which I found to be no problem at all to eat - weighs about 100 gms and has a net carb count of almost 60. A couple of TB of unpopped corn will give you about a cup or so of popped corn (if I remember correctly) and a cup of popcorn is about like eating nothing, in terms of satisfaction for me. I would say that if a serving of popcorn satisfies you and keeps you within your carb allowance, and doesn't stall you or give you cravings, then go for it. Hey, Sheyrena, does the Astoria pool still exist? I spent many a happy hour there, getting there on the el from Corona. Used to cost a quarter to get in.
