Wink Hey, I am a newbie to the SBD!

Hey There!

I am just new to the SBD, as well as to this forum! I have been reading a lot of the posts and finding them to be very helpful and inspiring. It is nice to find that there are so many people trying the diet, or maintaining it! I am on Phase 1 at the moment. I am on Day 10! It was hard the first few days trying to avoid the carbs like breads and cereals since I was pretty much you could say obsessed with them. But I don't miss them at all anymore!

I am kinda getting sick of salads and eggs now, does anyone find the same?

I have a question about artificial sweeteners too, I have been using Sugar Twin in my decaf tea, and have Sweet N Low Candy, and other Sorbee no sugar added candy that are sweetened with Splenda. I was just wondering if all of these different sweeteners are going to be harmful to me? also they are said that in excessive amounts to cause a type of laxative effect, I am not consuming them in large quantities, yet I am wondering if mixing them is creating the effect, does anyone think that is possible?

Well, anyone else that is on Phase 1, I would love to hear of your progress or concerns! or anyone else that might be able to answer my questions as well!

Welcome Hyplicity!!! Glad to see there are more SBDers out there. This forum has been a bit quiet till lately. I have done Atkins and a versions somewhere between Atkins and SBD. I am now totally committed to SBD. I am on day TEN cheat free and on phase I. I am losing pretty well right now. I am also practicing portion control - too much of good thing is not good I am taking my WOE one day at a time. You can read my journal "Confessions of a Carb Addict". I am feeling great and when I go to sleep this evening I want to be able to say that once again I have stuck to my plan.

Welcome, Hyplicity31!

I don't do SB but Atkins. But that doesn't mean I can't welcome you all the same :bear:

The preferred artificial sweetner is splenda. The rest are not good, of course I have not completely given them up as I should but I am trying! The ones that cause the laxative effect are usually in the candies and those types of things...you'll find a "malitol is the devil" posted here several times. And it is for some, for me only if I overindulge.

Welcome Hyplicity31! I usually use a mixture of Splenda & Stevia. (most of the time -liquid for both, but sometimes the powder). I don't have problems with a laxative effect with them. We did Atkins to lose the weight and have been maintaining on SB for around a year now.

Hi Hyplicity31 and the rest of you. I agree I hope it dosen't stay quiet I may need some support with this. The first two weeks weren't so bad I lost 11 pounds. I started phase 2 added some carbs and gained weight so I guess I must be doing some thing wrong, I will have to figure out what my down fall was in order to continue.

Feel free to post some menus. The folks here on the boards are great at hiding hidden carbs or "stallers".

I found that sweets and breads were doing it to me. It's okay to have some, but you have to find out where the line is. When in doubt, eat lots of spinach, peppers & onions.
