I plan on going out and buying the book after work. I have been following atkins but becuase I have little weight to loose I think Atkins may be to high in fat for my Petite frame..
So I'm wondering does all cheese have to be low-fat(like feta) Is lowfat
and Salad Dressing ? Should they be full or low-fat?
What about Lunch meat ? Should i only eat lowfat and FF ????
Sorry for so many Questions
Thank you so much !

I would not attempt to follow Atkins without reading the book first. There is nothing in Atkins that is low fat. So, cheese, meats, salad dressing, mayo, should all be full fat, as they are lower in carbs.
If you are concerned about fat (and most of us were in the beginning) maybe you should check out the South Beach Diet.

I would buy, and read the book for SBD - Apparently, things have to be done in a very specific manner, cooked a certain way, foods eaten with certain foods, etc.

I'm actually considering switching, but I won't until I get off my duff and go buy the book and read it.

Shrinky, why are you considering a switch? Your words are always so wise and your knowledge of Atkins is deep.

Just curious.

Because now *I'M* starting to wonder if there's too much fat in my diet.. I was rocketing along at 21lbs the first month, 15lbs the second month, 14lbs the third month, etc. and now this month, I'll be lucky if I hit a 4lb loss..

I know it's not going to be a quick trip, but geeze.. so many months at lightning speed losses, and then practically nothing is starting to make me think I'm doing something wrong, or consuming too much fat.

I don't think I could squeak another vegetable in as it is, so I'm starting to eat higher carb veggies like peas - I don't like squash, zucchini, egg plant, artichokes, olives, etc. I've got salads growing out of my ears, the mounds of veggies on my dinner plate far outweigh the mounds of meat on my plate, I'm up to eating 2 slices of lc bread (3 carbs per slice) at least every other day, just to get the carbs in. My cheats are few, and relatively small - they don't trigger cravings, and I don't go nuts. I'm a walking water tower - I could supply a small city.

In essence, I don't know what to eat anymore. Part of me wants to add things like baked beans, refried beans, and corn back, but part of me still sees the numbers, and freaks.

Induction, I've got nailed down to an art form.. OWL, I *had* nailed down - til I ran out of foods I like.

PS - Sorry for the long-winded rant.

Shrinky,
If I am reading your signature line right, you have lost over 70 lbs in a little over 6mos?
That is sooooo awesome.....WAHOOO for you
I would dare say, you are not doing anything WRONG, your body is simply at a place where it needs to catch up with itself. Even though you are not at or near goal yet, your body will still slow down the weight loss as it is readjusting metabolically. The pounds may not "fly off" as fast for a while, or from now on for that fact, but I bet your rate of loss will pick up again in a short while. Keep doing what you have obviously had success with, and I bet you will see your rate pick up again.
Just my $.02.

As for SBD, I have read the book cover to cover and have been following the plan since Oct 1st. SBD does promote lower fat along with a "lower carb" lifestyle. Dr Agatson recommends the reduced fat cheeses, mayos, leaner cuts of meats, chicken breast meat only during phase 1, low sugar salad dressings, and several more things that set his plan apart from Atkins. I think, for me anyway, SBD is more do-able. At this point, I have only lost 4 lbs, but after being in a 9 month stall, that is certainly an encouraging sign to me. I'd be glad to try and answer anymore questions anyone has about SBD.
I'm just doing the best I can here...LOL

Nicole,
I did not get that impression when I read the book. Dr. Agatston gives you menu plans to follow in the book, but like any other food plan, I think that is so the reader can get more of an idea what to eat. I've been "mixing" it up quite a bit because as I said earlier, I'm not that fond of a lot of the things on the menu plan. While I have only lost about 4 lbs, I eat foods off of the "Foods to enjoy" list on pgs.126 and 127 for phase 1. SBD is lower fat and lower carb, not LOW CARB. After following Atkins and Protein Power, it was hard to get in that mind set, for me anyway.

Shrinky

I know just how you feel. I've been at this for less time than you, but my weight loss has become very slow. While I *know* in my head that fat weighs less than muscle and my clothes fit way better, so something is working, part of me is wondering if I shouldn't eventually move over to a more 'flexible' woe, while maintaining the low carb ethos. Do let us know what you decide, and how you get on.

I'm considering switching from Atkins as well. I've been doing Atkins since July 1 and dropped quickly but have been gaining and losing the same three pounds for about a month and a half, I guess. I would like to lose only about 10 more pounds. I have a friend who has a book that compares all the lc plans. I can't remember the name, but I thought I would borrow that before I bought SBD. I don't want to have a shelf of diet books, but I would just like to be done with the initial losing phase and onto maintenance.

Blessings,
Cindy
