| What is the pocket diet? I use a Pocket PC diet tracer, does that count? I get the idea that the pocket idea has to do with the size of the portions, from your posts. My rule of thumb. when I look at my regular sized dinner plate, the food should occupy no more than 2/3 of the plate, and not stacked tall. The meat portion should be about the size of a deck of cards, no thicker. The fibrous veggies should be about 1 cup and the non-fibrous veggies should be no more than ? cup. I used to watch the carbs, but now I find that if I keep these ratios in mind, I do much better than simply avoiding carbs. BUT I go organic whenever possible. I avoid high glycemic index foods, I avoid aged foods (Hard cheese), I avoid nitrates/nitrites, and all other toxins that I possibly can. That means no coffee, no regular tea. Only organic tea, and seldome that. Additionally, I do add flax oil and seed to my diet wherever I can tolerate it, such as in homemade mayo, or grind the seeds and sprinkle them over things where the yukky texture won't be too bad. Plus I do psyllium in lemon water 2x per day too. Did I mention that I drink lots and lots of lemon water? Fresh lemon squeezed into a big sports bottle then filled with water. I used to use unsweetened cranberry juice, a la Fat Flush, but then I discovered that even though it leaves an alkaline ash when burned, in your body it creates an acid reaction. So for my health's sake I seldome have that anymore. I also follow a basic "zig-zag" type of plan with portions. I go a couple of days at calorie deficit, and follow that with a high calory day. I exercise more on the high calorie day and if I cannot do that, then I stay on calorie deficit until I can exercise. This is my conglomeration of diet ideas that have seemed to help me. I've borrowed ideas from many placesm as you can tell. It is basically a detox, limited carb, high fiber type of diet. I don't worry about oils (good, non-trans fat oils) or salt. I have attempted to not use them gratuitously, though. Also of critical importantance is: supplements. I find Atkins supplements work well for me, along with sub-lingual b12. They make a world of difference in my appetite. If I am faithful to them and avoid high-glycemics, dieting is easy. Fail to observe those 2, and all I can think about is getting a "sweet" fix. You'll never convince me that it wasn't our American processed, polluted food that made me fat in the first place. Just because all these chemicals they put in our food doesn't kill us, it doesn't make them optimal for health, and fitness. I think they are slowly killing us, and the poor skinny people are suffering worse than we are. At least our bodies are protecting us by making fat to store the toxins in. Those poor skinnies just have to suffer the consequences. D. Dee |
