| This is my first real post, and I just wanted to introduce myself briefly. My name is Pete, and I started the SB diet yesterday. I currently weigh 303, and am looking to get down to 220 or so. My last diet was WW, which I lost about 50 lbs on. Unfortunately, I've gained the weight back, and then some, resulting in a weight that is only 5 lbs less than my all time high. I am excited (no really, I am) about doing this diet, and I want to learn as much as possible. This is where this site comes in. I now have a place to ask all of my newbie questions, and will in turn, get some good info. I want to thank you all ahead of time for your help, in my pursuit. If I can be of any assistance, I will. |

| Thank you for the kind words. I don't know if this is strange or not, but I've been on the diet for 3 days now, and I've lost 9 lbs. I'm assuming this is all water weight, but I pee like a race horse, just like always. What gives? |

| Yep Petey, that's probably water most likely. Carbs have a wonderful ability to make our muscles retain water. It's the whole insulin relationship thing. So when you deprive your body of carbs, the water retention cycle is stopped. It's also the reason, or one of the reasons, why peoples' blood pressure normalizes so quickly on a LC diet. It is not unusual to lose a LOT of weight in the beginning. When the water levels in your body equalize, the weight loss slows down. Then the REAL fat burning begins. Burned fat is eventually metabolized into water. The body will hang onto that for awhile and then a WHOOOOSH will occur. When your salt, calcium and potassium levels are just right, the body will let go of the water, thus the whoooosh. You are off to a good start. Don't be surprized by a slow down in loss. That is a normal process of this WOL. Revel in the glory of your newfound loss, stick to it. If you stall a bit now and then, don't lose hope. If you are doing this right, it's all good. Just give your body the time it needs to make for a whooooosh.
