Default question

Is it common to have your weight go up and down on a daily basis? I have a really bad habit of weighing myself daily....I know I shouldn't do that but yesterday I was down 3 pounds from today. I ate the same...stuck with my SB to the tee but it still showed and increase today??? Is this normal.

My meal yesterday was:
Breakfast:
1 egg made into omlet with cheese, and sauted vegt
tea

Dinner:

Salad with 1 tsp onion, 2 tsp tomatoe, 1/4 cup sunflower seeds, 1/4 cup cheese, 1 grilled chicken breast and low carb ranch dressing.

Snack:

Sauted vegt. with parmasian cheese sause

Supper:

Roasted Chicken (1 serving) and 1/8 cup of spinich

10 glasses of water

So what do you ladies think??? What am I doing wrong as far as my meals?

Read #3 from this list.

Besides....common sense tells us that it's impossible to gain (or lose) three pounds in a 24-hour period. Think about it. There are other factors at play with daily weight fluctuations.

Hope this helps.

fluctuations are completely normal. Just a way of life.
and the scale is a bad, bad scale.

I'm having the same type of problems. and no matter how much I say I won't - I still get on twice a day. once in the morning, once at bedtime(at which time I subtract 2 lbs -and its always what I expect in the morning)

but, the human body doesn't react the same way with 2 different people. some people have weight that just flows downward when they do this right.
some of us (ME!) will be down 4 lbs, then up 2, then down 1, then up 3 - even when doing everything correctly.
in the long run, we lose, but on a daily basis, we just drive ourselves nuts.

You are not kidding. I really need to not weigh myself everyday...and pick one day for a weigh in Day but the temptation to see if I went down can be really hard to resist...Thanks..I need to remember that it is normal and that my weight can go up and down. It help to know some else has the same problem.

Thanks alot!!

If you really feel the need to weigh yourself daily, one of the things that you can do to show you if it's really "working" is to average your weights each week (all 7 days added together then divided by 7) and that's your "weight for that week"... do the same thing every week and you should see an overall trend downwards.

I'm a hit a new low weight, bounce up 2-3 pounds, stay there for a week or so, lose really well for a couple of weeks, find a new low weight, bounce up a couple of pounds... and so on... I almost never see a continuous downward trend... I actually have to look at my weight once a month (I weigh daily, but only write it down every other week), and see if my overall trend is going in the right direction.

It's hard to not weigh yourself every day, but once you make the commitment to weigh only once a week, once every two weeks, or even once a month, it will become easier. Believe me, I know. I used to weigh every day, and I'm like Katie, up and down and up and down. It's not worth the angst. Just mark on your calendar your Weigh Day, and stick with it. You'll be happier in the long run.

That is a great idea. I am concidering just weighing in on one day a week so that I don't get discouraged with daily weights. I just need to hide my scale!! Averaging is a great idea though. I might just try that this week and see how it goes. Thanks

I agree with what others have posted re: weighing daily and fluctuations. I weigh in on Sunday, always around the same time and after um, "clearing out" my system, and always in the same thing---just
undies! I do sometimes weigh around mid-week just to see how things are going, and then try to make changes in my eating accordingly.

Also remember when you've been exercising for a while, you'll build up some muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat. That's how sometimes you might weigh a little more but actually be wearing smaller clothes or see a loss in inches but wonder why your weight is where it is.

I haven't started exercising yet. Housework and kids if that counts. I think I will just weigh in once a week and see how that goes. It is too fustrating doing it everyday.

Thanks
