I found this site by accident, but I am very glad I did....even if this gives an encouraging word to one person, it is worth the effort. So here I go...1 year ago this month, I weighed 250 lbs. I started on Atkins, and exercised faithfully. Today I weigh 155 lbs and am still shrinking. I went from a 24 to a size 10. I went from bearly being able to walk around the block to running 5 miles every other day, taking Tae Kwon Do 2 days a week, and weight training. Not to mention my triglyerides and cholesterol are all normal and I no longer take any meds for asthma, which I seem to no longer have. I look in the mirror and cannot believe I am still the same person. I remember the small goals...just get to 200 lbs, just get under 200.....just get to 180... I only have 17 lbs to go, and I will hit my goal weight of 138 lbs. Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done, it is too hard the older you get (I just turned 40!!!)...all those excuses are just that...excuses. I went out with a couple of friends, and had a bunch of guys try to pick me up....talk about elevating the ego!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) I feel like I am living life again...for the first time!! Barbara

I just love success stories, Don't you? Now I want to be a success to with my low carb and lose all my weight. I am now going into my third week on Atkins and have already lost 10 lbs. so I think I have done ok. I just have so much to lose but I know it will take time and I have to be patience so I will. I have found that this low carb is really not that hard to follow once you get to know what you can eat and not eat. I have never stuck to a plan this long as I have with this low carb and I know I can stick with it and lose my weight now. I am learning a new way of eating now and I really find it exciting. For so many years I ate wrong and felt bad , but now I have a new level of energy that I did not know I even had. It really feels good. I can just imagine how good I will feel when I lose more weight.

Barbara I guess I'm the one person (the reason you accidentally popped in here) I have been struggling to stay or should I say start Atkins for 5 years now......I just keep getting bigger. I have so many excuses:I think low carb only works for men, I will hurt my body without eating fruit and veggies to the max. I can't justify eating bacon over an apple....Deep inside I feel that carbs actually make me sick....all my blood work is awful and my blood pressure...through the roof. I have emotionally dropped out of life and I have such a wonderful life!! I'm not sure I know what I am trying to say other than I just need someone to steer me in the right direction cause all the diets have me so confused! Thanks SoTired

From one Barbara to another, thanks for taking time to share your great story! Congratulations, and best wishes for ongoing success. And a sidenote to Sotired...If you haven't talked to your medical provider about depression, perhaps that would be a place to start. Depression is a treatable condition that you can't always recognize in yourself, but it makes it very hard to tackle anything else. Good luck with that. You can see from Barbara's story that getting started on Atkins is just like everything else: one step, one day at a time. If you have the Atkins book, mark the pages for Induction, and make a shopping list. Pick a start date--hey, it's almost January, a good time to start new things! Then...just do it. Don't set a timetable. Just take it one day at a time. We'll be here for you.

Thanks from me too Barbara. I'm 47 (almost 48) and I'm having a really hard time losing even when I've been careful but your post gives me hope that eventually I will make it also. I'm sure you're a real inspiration to more then just those of us on this forum as well. It also doesn't hurt that you brought up the part about getting "hit on". Snicker. Have a great time.
