I agree - my choice was give up carbs or give up caffeine. Kept the caffeine. I love being able to drink real cream in my coffee, too. Of course, I have compensated by boosting the strength of the coffee so much that my best friend, who only drinks coffee black, can't hack it anymore! Seriously, though, coffee is a YMMV (your mileage may vary). Some people find that it stalls them, other's don't. Jen 175/129/120

Welcome Pinky! You're doing right. You might want to turn off the *ALL CAPS* though so it doesn't look like you are shouting... Coffee does not stall me; it actually seems to make my cravings go away... of course, I am not drinking it right now (baby on the way), but I agree that it is a YMMV thing. You just have to see how it affects YOU. Some people swear it makes their cravings worse or it causes them to stall. Others (like me) find it to be a wonderful metabolism booster and appetite-suppressor. HTH, Summer www.herstorygirl.com

I'm addicted to non-fat decaf lattes. According to Dr. Sears, they make for a perfect zoned "snack." I'm not on the Zone anymore but still love the lattes. The people at my local coffee shop always laugh at me and tell me I've taken all the fun out of it. However, I can't drink caffeine because I have MVP (mitral valve prolapse) and when I have any kind of stimulant it makes my heart race and I get the shakes.

One of the best kept secrets is the advantages of caffeine. Caffeine does not promote insulin resistance or food cravings; these are myths. I just finished a fascinating book called The Caffeine Advantage (available on amazon.com) and a whole chapter is devoted to losing weight with caffeine. Personally, I could never give it up, it helps me function better, but as the book suggests, I do monitor my intake and never go over 600 mg. per day. The book gives detailed directions for finding your own personal optimal caffeine intake level. Also, I just read a news article where scientists found caffeine is GOOD for the liver! Anyone else read that? I don't know how to do links, but wish I could attach it for all to read. Caffeine is an antioxidant, like vitamin C and Vitamin E. Whether it's coffee, tea, chocolate. Vivarin, or caffeine dieting supplements...LONG LIVE CAFFEINE!!!!

I went on Atkins, lost my weight, so now I am controlled carb dieting in a way. I never gave up my coffee! I have a few cups early in the day, very high test. I think I read that caffeine may decrease blood glucose, so if you don't have a lot of glucose in your blood, it may make you feel odd. I think that happened once to me when I was ultra low carbing, which shouldn't affect any of you. I read a great book "eat, drink and be well" (I think). Got it off the faq page at www.mainecottagefoods.com is all I remember (since I usually get my books from their list). Coffee, it says, is your friend. And the author, a big nutrition guy, has a food pyramid that is very compatible with reduced carb living. Check it out. I wish I had found it when I first started changing my diet.
