It is described in my site

On display, eh? Kewl

Hello, girl, you are seriously losing inches!! I doubt if candida is an issue for you. You are most likely building muscle in a major way. I would not focus on pounds, rather dress size if I were you!

Have you read my topic in newbies "the scale is a cheat and a liar" ???

I apoligize for my stupidity but I am fairly new to the low-carb way of eating...a few years ago I did Suzanne Somers and lost 38 pounds but unfortunately I didn't make it a lifestyle change and slipped into old habits. Obviously, I gained the 38 plus more back anyway, I have been reading everything I can about various low-carb plans and my husband and I both started last Monday on a lifestyle change. (down 9 pounds--61 to go) Long story short, I really have liked the forums on this website (it's been very encouraging during this craving-stage) but some things I do not understand--like what is the apple cider vinegar thing? a pill? actually apple cider vinegar? what's it supposed to do exactly? and some of the other terms in this particular forum confuse me also. I did try checking out Sharon's website but didn't know what to look for. Again, I apologize for my stupidity (and typing skills) but would appreciate a response http://www.lowcarbeating.com/smilies/eyes.gif

Please ignore the website listed in my post above--apparently my stupidity extends to "posting" (it was my first try) Sorry....`

Lori Ann,

First things first!

No calling names!!

Now, that is taken care of...

Really, ACV has little to do with low carbing, though it is helping some of us who have been on this for a long time to regain our "edge."

Just stick with induction/beginning phase of your plan, and I'm sure you will do great

Welcome to the boards! Post often

Blessings!

Lori Ann,

You are not stupid! You're just a *newbie*! Don't be so hard on yourself.

As Sharron stated, the apple cider vinegar is not really a part of any low-carb plan, per se; it's just a healthy thing to do.
It's been around for a LONG, LONG time and a hundred years ago, rural families (like farmers) took it regularly as part of their daily health regimen -- kind of like a *vitamin*. It wasn't even considred "homeopathic" or "alternative" back then; it was just something people took to stay healthy.

Those of us who are experimenting with it here are doing so for various health reasons and as Sharron so succinctly put it, to get back our *edge*.
We are using the unfiltered, liquid form as it is thought to be the most beneficial. It's available at most health food stores and it's pretty cheap.
I have found that it REALLY helps with my diabetes by keeping my blood glucose levels in check. It's also wonderful for curbing the appetite and I have found that I retain less water and have less swelling (I am 7 months pregnant) when I take it regularly.

What other terms confuse you? Maybe we can help you out... Don't ever be ashamed to ask a question here. That is what we are here for.
But do pick a low-carb plan, buy the book, and read it. As many of us say, "Knowledge is power" and the more you know about this woe (way of eating), the better you will do.
Good luck to you!

Summer

Thank you for the info-I'm not always so hard on myself--just was feeling particularly foolish in this regard.
Here's the other terms I don't "get":
Nature's flavor vanilla flavored splenda concentrate, jicama, spittle test and davinci.

I have read the Atkins books, Suzanne Somers books, and looked into South Beach diet and have decided to "do" Atkins.
Congrats on your pregnancy and thanks to both of you again
P.S. I realize that I'm not at the stage to use the ACV but how much do you take daily?

Hi Lori Ann!!! It's great to have you with us!!!!

And I agree, no name calling, even on yourself!!!

Um, okay........ACV MUST be organic to do any good, it has sediment OR the "Mother" in it, which simply is stuff in there that made it vinegar in the first place and is unfiltered.

Jicama is a root, the size of a soft-ball, tan in color with roughish skin. You peel it like a potato, is found in the produce section of a store and is almost FREE food on LC. It can be eaten raw with dips and is a cross between an apple and a potato. It doesn't have nearly the same amount of starch as the other two and is packed with fiber.

Davinci is a brand of coffee flavoring syrups and they do come in sugar-free, sweetened with splenda. There is also a brand called Torani, available at Cost Plus World Markets, if you have one in your area.

The spittle test is something one does to determine if they have Candida. That is.......an overgrowth of this horrid microorganism found naturally in our intestines, which has become overgrown through repeated use of antibiotics. It proves to be at the root of many undiagnosable ailments and to stall weight loss. Sharron's site SHOULD have links that explain how to do the test. There are also sites on the internet that have a "questionnaire" that you can do to see if you are at risk. If you have this condition, it is wise to work very closely with a Naturopathic Doctor.

Let us know if you have any other questions, we don't mind at all!!!!!

And unfortunately for US, Nature's Flavors has had to discontinue their wonderful vanilla Splenda concentrate due to licensing issues with McNeil, makers of Splenda (sucralose) - that's a big blow to me because I love it - only a few drops sweetens a whole cup of tea with NO carbs. GRRRRRRR!!

You probably have already seen reference to all manner of ways to use the DaVinci syrups, so I won't bore you with THOSE details again...except to say that I just love them, and related items like Torani, Hawaiian Ice, etc. Nature's Flavors also sells syrups but quite honestly, I've poured 7 bottles of theirs right down the drain...

HTH and welcome aboard!

And trust Char when she talks syrups. She knows her stuff, she's an addict.

Sharron,

Just read "Scale is a cheat and a liar" --
really helped ease my mind!

Thank you!

Does anyone bring their ACV to work? and if so, do you fill it in a water bottle before work? I'd like to drink it during the day but am 150% positive that my co-workers wouldn't appreciate the smell in our kitchen.

Shannon, that would work. I put it in my water bottles all (well almost ) the time.

I have been putting a tablespoon of ACV in a 32 oz cup with green tea bags, a bit of Vitamin C crystals and some stevia. I like it better when the tea is chilled.

Ilse, have you noticed any benefits yet? How long have you been doing it?

My kids like it in tea, too. In fact they ask for it!!

I've noticed another benefit from ACV (don't read if you are grossed about by spit!):

I did a spittle test for candida (links on my site) the other day. I had read on the Braggs site, I think, that it helped with candida, but there was still that niggly in the back of my mind about how vinegar is bad for candida. Now, I know how I've been feeling, but you know, old ideas die hard!

Anyway, I did the spittle test the other day, and it came out the clearest I've ever seen it! Usually, it at least floats at the top in a little ball. This time it completely dissolved within a minute or two. Absolutely, completely clear!!!

Blessings!

Sharron,
How funny you should mention the spittle test; I did mine again yesterday, but it was still positive! I've been faithfully on acv for over a month now(since 12/14). Am intrigued...any thoughts?
Thanks,
Shell
