My ND told me to get some for its digestive enzyme properties. Upon some limited reading, I'm thinking it would be beneficial to us, in general on this woe, partly because of the potassium factor.

http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/webproject.../ciderfact.htm

and

http://www.bragg.com/company/faq_applecider.html

have some information. I've not done much reading yet, but I'm encouraged.

I don't believe plain ol' cheap vinegar from the supermarket will have the same properties as one you could get from the HFS. I got the Hain Brand of Apple Cider Vinegar from my HFS today for something like $3.

Does anyone else take this? Hoping for some discussion...

Blessings!

Hi Sharron,

I have been using Hain's Apple Cidar Vinegar for about a year. It does seem to help with energy and is supposed to have many healthful benefits. It's also an appetite suppressant. I take 2 tsps in water twice a day.

Really? I didn't know about the appetite issue. That sounds good!

I did DEFINITELY notice an increase in energy last night! Lately, I've been falling asleep before bed, but last night I was doing dishes right up until time for lights-out.

This is very encouraging.

Oh, and another thing I read was that it was high in malic acid -- malic acid is a specific treatment for fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue. In the past I was spending something like $35 for a container of the supplement. Now, I only use it if I'm having a flare -- because of the $$ issue. I'm thinking this is going to be a very good thing for me

Blessings!

Back in my *natural healing/vegetarian days* I tried using this stuff but couldn't stomach it.
However, after reading this, I think it might be a good time to try again...

I know that it really is supposed to be very good for you.
Sharron, what about the whole Candida/vinegar thing? Would that be a concern here?

Thanks for the great links!

Summer

Great question Summer! I was wondering about that same thing a few months ago, but have since forgotten. I was thinking along the line of the salt/water cure. Has alone tried putting 1 tsp of sea salt in a gallon of water. I've been a big chicken about trying it!

Jeanny,
MANY of us here do the *watercure* or salting...
Check out the extensive thread (in this forum) regarding it: http://www.lowcarbeating.com/6/ubb.x...4&m=9036060124

I have never felt better than when I am following the watercure faithfully.
(BTW, I take 1/4 tsp. sea salt per 32 oz. of water, 1-3 times/day.)

Well, from what I read over several sites, it has anti-septic and anti-fungal properties.

I wouldn't use the regular store bought kind -- that is why I went to the HFS. I'd like to innoculate my own and try to make some with the mother intact.

My doc did caution me to be sure and have my glass of kefir daily. I'm not sure if that was in relation to the vinegar issue or if it was just a general thing?

Blessings!

Oh, yes, I didn't see these other posts when I replied.

I bought Apple Cider Vinegar capsules in the HFS the other day. I was wondering if it is the same thing or do I need to bite the bullet and drink the stuff? The capsules are made from Healthy Sense and contain 150mg of Apple Cider Vinegar, 15mg (750%) B-6, 225mcg (150%) Kelp and 600mg Lecithin.
Any info will be appreciated.

I have some ACV in the pantry, but I never use it. If you buy the kind with the "mother" in it, it is supposed to wonderful for your health. I guess I need to try it again. The taste is dreadful though. Any tricks to stomaching the stuff?

As far as the pills go, I'm a little bit of a skeptic because of the whole "mother" issue. I think that it would be impossible to get "it" into a pill form. I'm not sure, but I think the mother is actually considered a "living" part of the ACV. Someone else may be more up on this though.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. Bragg's is reported to be the most trusted brand available.

There are many sites that say their pills are as effective as the real thing.

On the Braggs site, they suggest mixing the ACV with honey. Not for our woe! I found the taste to be just fine -- a little sour but not nasty like the supermarket kind!

The lady at the HFS said she mixed hers with water at first. Some sites suggest this as a matter of course.

I'll bet that the Hain would develop a mother if left undisturbed. I want to get some apple juice (or make it?) and try innoculating it with the Hain. The Hain sure looks differently than the supermarket kind. It looks like real, pressed cider!

If I don't get around to experimenting with the vinegar, I might get the Braggs next time. Oh, btw Dom has vinegar instructions on his site. http://users.chariot.net.au/~dna/kef....html#Kombucha

I'm glad we've got such a good discussion going!

Oh, and I'm beginning to notice the appetite thing for sure, and definite energy

Okay. The appetite thing has my attention. I'll try it tomorrow. Ugh...the taste (shudders in fear and disgust).

A tip --- if you're not sure if you've got the right kind of ACV, then you could look for a listing for the "mother," or you could just use the sight test. The grocery store kind you can see right through, but the raw, natural kind must be shaken and has something "swimming" around in it.

I think I will do some more reading over at Dom's. Then I might try to ferment my owm vinegar with a starter bottle from the HFS. I'll let you know how that goes.

The culturing takes something like 3-4 months.
