I have had a really bad day today....terrible stomach cramps, not hungry but wanting something......so I just had 3 small pieces of brown bread with loads of butter......ohhhh, it tasted so nice, now I feel guilty.

Is there anyone out there who gives in to their cravings?

Louloo, LOTS of people give into there cravings. They drink lots of water and get right back on plan. Don't feel guilty. Just get back on the horse. Are you coming down with the flu maybe???? Did the bread have fiber in it or whole grains? If so, it probably wasn't all THAT bad then.

I hope you feel better soon!!!!

Yes Barb, the bread was high fibre so maybe not as disasterous as it could have been.

You are right also in that I feel really unwell tonight, I am hoping that I am not in for yet another cold.

Now I have had the bread I won't want any for a long time again....it is always bread that does it for me, not chocolate or cakes but always bread.

I am drinking a lot of water tonight and I won't want anything else to eat, so maybe I can get back on track again tomorrow.

Thanks for being there.

Ok I guess I have to say something now since I have been following conversation. Hi again louloo! I have missed talking with you. No, a bit of bread isn't bad. My particular plan has bread in it, just have the lowest carb you can afford/ find. I have found some 11 carb per slice whole wheat for .98cents a loaf. So far I am 34 lbs gone with this plan. I have been told that if you have zero bread you need to be taking supplements and I am interested in what you guys are doing

Hi Connie!!! Welcome to our little thread.

I don't do bread very often, but when I find low carb bread I indulge once in awhile. I just don't crave bread anymore. I was working on a lowcarb bread recipe today. If it turns out good I'll see if Andrea will let me post it as an article. I am using Kefir as a leavening. I can't wait to see if it turns out. Today I am letting the Kefir grow in a 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour out on the counter, sorta like a sour dough bread starter. We'll see if it's bubbly tomorrow. It has to sit for 24 hours. I'm hoping it will taste really good so I can get DH off the white bread. Cross your fingers for me.

I sure hope so!!!! I figured if I get 16 slices out of it, it will be 8 net carbs per slice.

Hello Connie,

How lovely to hear from you again....I have missed talking with you as well.

What plan are you following at the moment that allows you to eat bread? I used to buy a very nice seedy type of bread with 8 grams of carb per slice, I will buy it again I think, I really find it difficult to live without bread.....especially breakfast, I can tolerate eggs now but not first thing in the morning.

What have you been up to and how are you doing on your Plan........can you bring us up to date. I am so pleased that you have been following our conversation, mostly it has been Barb and me. I would love to know where all the others have gone.

Hope to 'talk' to you again later,
Take care,
love Louloo. x

I have just remembered the name of the bread, it is BURGEN and it is quite delicious.....my DH has gone over the shops to get me some now.

What I do is freeze it 2 pieces at a time, then I know that I can't overeat it....if it does not affect my weight this week, I will continue to have it for my breakfast.

Talk later,
love Louloo. x

Hi Louloo

I have a plan that my endocrinologist has me on. It is her own design so it really doesn't quite fit most everything on the boards. You can have bread but there are rules to the equation. No more than 2 slices of the lowest carb count you can find. One in the morning and one at lunch, or two at lunch but not 2 in the morning. You can have cereal for breakfast but only puffed wheat and it counts as one of the breads for the day. I have had that with cream and splenda, otherwise I really don't care for the cereal, tastes like cardboard.
For me the way my blood sugar spikes in the morning determines what the rest of my day is going to be like. My plan is more about managing the blood sugar and not so much about weight loss. My doctor says the weight will come off and it is just a bonus side effect. I started at 296 and I am at 262 in about a years time. I find dropping weight kinda scary and expensive in the clothing department so I occasionally sabotage my diet when things begin to happen to fast, I feel terrible and then back on the wagon again. Trying to get past that.

You don't count carbs in veggies and they should be eaten raw if possible or only slightly cooked. She encourages that you try and get them in every meal. Omelets are encouraged but she prefers the use of egg beaters if you are going to eat omletes everyday. (I personally can't tolerate the egg beaters so I eat the eggs and sausage or turkey sausage or toast and crushed almond butter.)

I made up some whipped cream with splenda and it didn't set well with me. Hmm....

I did ask at my last appointment why any bread at all. She said with this plan you need the riboflavin and something else. If you don't get it in the bread, then you need to take supplements.

I do take vitamins with selenium. She said that we live in an overly farmed area and the soil is selenium depleted and it is a mineral that will help the thyroid function. My thyroid was swelling but it has gone down since taking the vitamins. I switched over to a multivitamin now with 100% recommended daily allowance of this stuff.

My blood pressure has been up. I have switched jobs and such and they are upping one of my medications. I am working on drinking more water (I had unintentionally cut back) so maybe it will go back down. It was 110/70 and went up to 130/90 (not bad but I liked the other numbers better) Last blood work was fabulous (just need to get that exercise thing working for me)

Good to hear from you. Hope I have not rambled too much.

Hi Connie,

It's lovely hearing from you again. You are doing soooo well so whatever you are doing is obviously right for you.

I agree that the low fat, low carb wouldn't work for you or me for that matter. But you seem to have balanced everything out to suit you and that's all that matters.

I tried Schwarzbein, (Spelling)? but I found it too complicated so I have come back to Paleo.

Unfortunately I am not really supposed to eat any dairy but as you probably remember, I love Cheese, LOL

I thought that I was really focussed and I was for the first 2 weeks and then the BREAD called me and I fell again.

I have bought the Burgen wheaty brown bread and I am going to try it for this week, just 2 slices a day. If I gain weight then I will cut it out

Your cholesterol and blood pressure readings are brilliant....my blood pressure is also 110/70, that's one thing less to worry about. But my last cholesterol was a lot higher than when I started LC last January, so I am a bit worried about this.

Anyway, good luck and please drop by and say hello now and then, it was lovely 'speaking' to you again.

Take care,
love Louloo. x

Hi all,

Oh did we have fun at our lunch today. Joanna is a lovely, enthusiastic woman. It was so nice to meet her. After lunch we took her on a field trip to a nearby grocery store to get her started on some basic LC provisions.

We had a ball!!! I just wish I could meet each and every person on this board.

Hi Barb,

It sounds as though you really enjoyed yourself. I too wish that we could meet you, I would have loved to have been with you today on your visit to the grocery store.

We are supposed to be seeing more low carb in our shops but they are very slow introducing things over here.....it would make things a lot easier if there was some available.

What sort of things did you start Joanna off with?

I could do with some help myself......it's "here we go again"......the bread has given me very bad cravings and my diet is flying out the window again....HELP!!!

I knew that I was doing too well, it's the bread that calls to me everytime. I know that I have to climb back on straight away and ignore the cheats, but it is hard when you get the cravings.

Sorry to have let you all down again. I promise to start again tomorrow and hope that the damage isn't too great when I weigh in on Saturday.

Good luck everyone from a very dispondant Louloo. x

Oh Louloo, don't be too hard on yourself. It's whole grain bread right? There's always tomorrow to try again. You are allowed to eat nuts and berries on Paleo right? Can you have whipped cream? If you can, how about some frozen berries, thawed out, with whipped cream (homemade) with some chopped nuts sprinkled on top. Can you get Splenda there in the UK?

We took Joanna to a store, one she had never been to before and found her Almond Flour, sugar free jello pudding, jars to start brewing her Kefir in, a strainer for the kefir, she bought some veggies, some Atkins syrups. This store has everything from groceries to clothing to hardware to pets. It's a shop in one place kinda set up. It's nice, 'cuz you can get EVERYTHING, well almost, there. It helps eliminate the running around everywhere. I love it.

Chin up girlfriend!!!!

Hello Barb,

Thanks for helping me to pull out of a dangerous downward slope again.

I am not sure if we can get splenda here or not, but we can't eat dairy on Paleo, not supposed to anyway.

Those berries with the whipped cream are making me hungry.

Now, advice please. Because I am missing the butter, cheese and cream.....do you think it would be better for me to follow Atkins, then I can have the things that I like????

I don't want to put you on the spot, so to speak, but since I have been chatting with some of you on Atkins, it has awakened my interest again. You have soooo much variety....maybe I wouldn't crave bread if I could have my sugar free jello and cream again........oooohhhhhh I am feeling really hungry now becaue I missed lunch and I have not been drinking my water.

Your store sounds positively decandent.....we do not have Atkins syrups or anything like it.

This Kefir.....I have passed most of the posts on this, I must go back and read up on it. I don't understand what it is or what you do with it......I don't like milk, does it taste like milk?

Better stop here, rambling on a bit too long.

Thanks in advance for the advice that I know you will give.

Take care,
Love Louloo. x
