I am really having a hard time understanding this process. I have gone to Doms...tried to read it, read posts in here and I am not sure why I cant grasp it. Sounds easy enough reading through all of the topics yet my brain is going huh?????

Can anyone maybe help this lady understand this? I have introduced it to my hubby who at first was a big skeptic but he has decided to let me try it. He will to of course. We both are looking for any help with some of my health issues (Sharron if you read this your web site has helped us with more info on Allergies.)

I will be willing to try but need to have someone simplify this process for me so when I can get some "grains" I can do this right.

Blessings,

Carol

Carol, I had trepidations at first myself. Dom's site has SO much information it is almost overwhelming. If it hadn't been for a couple of experienced folks on this board who encouraged me, I'd probably never have tried it. (Thank you April Rose and Zip, wherever you are)

But it is just as simple as we will all tell you, and once you've been through the process a couple of days (which takes 5 minutes or less) you'll be quite at ease.

If you'd like I can send you a little primer with pictures I put together this summer. To send it to you, you'll need to send me a Private Topic with your email address. People tell me once they've actually seen the process, it's not so intimidating.

And of course, if/when you do get grains, we'll all help you, step by step

Carol,

I am so glad my site was of some benefit to you

and, yes, kefir is just as easy as we say it is. It should also help deal with the allergy issues!

Blessings!

I bought some Kefir at my grocer today made by lifeway. Now its lowfat with 8 carbs but with a bit of stevia I really enjoyed it!

Now to find some Kefir grains...I know I saw the post here somewhere!

Blessings,

Carol

Hi Maritza!

I am sure it helps with yeast infections! I am sure the girls will help with more info.

Sharron has some excellent stuff on her website to read if you would like to look at it! Go up top to see Sharrons signiture The lowcarbcookbook and click on that. You will find a whole bunch of stuff to read!

Blessings,

Carol

Carol, I know just how you feel; there's so much information that I felt overwhelmed. Dom's site is informative, but his unique style of writing just isn't much to my taste. So here's my kefir primer:

1. Get your kefir grains.
2. Stick 'em in a glass jar with some milk.
Let it sit on the counter until you see clear stuff at the bottom. A couple of days usually; depends on the ambient temperature.
3. Pour the whole shebang into a strainer. What comes through = kefir.
4. Drink your fresh kefir or put it in the fridge, and put the babies back in the jar with more milk.

That's really all I needed to get started. The higher the grain:milk ratio, the faster the fermenting, but I haven't really worried about exact quantities, and it just keeps getting better.

Hi, Carol.

The thread you're looking for is here: Kefir sharing thread

I'm also in NYS and if you want some grains, just email me or start a private thread where you can give me your address.

So glad you are enjoying your kefir, Carol. Neat, isn't it?

I too like to use organic milk unless I happen to run out of it. I've also been adding about 1/3 can coconut milk to each batch lately. Wow!

Hey, Carol!

Sounds as if you're already a confirmed brewer!

I don't have access to fresh organic cow's milk, but I can get goat. That's really fine, too!

Glad to hear that your babies are producing well for you!
