I don't think this is excessive, nor do I think that store bought grains have any disadvantage over home grown. If you plow through all the information available on Dom's site, you'll learn that your grains - wherever you get them from - tend to adapt to your environment and become your own so to speak. Also, they DO propogate. You may be surprised how fast they increase in size and number. That lets you freeze or dry store them and give some away.
