i bought a bottle of the plain kefir (helios brand) from my hfs today. i went to make a smoothie and it was more the consistency of yogurt...it glopped out instead of pouring. i was under the impression that it was supposed to be more the consistency of milk. is something wrong w/it or is that the normal consistency?

Kefir is thicker than milk, by a long shot, and not quite as thick as yogurt. However, depending on what you put in your smoothie (flax, soy protein, etcl), it could well thicken up considerably in the making.

If it was coming right out of the bottle in globs before you made your smoothie, that doesn't seem right.

I had picked up a bottle (just to see what it was like) and it came out bloppy - couldn't deal with it, pitched it, and that was my last attempt.
so if it wasn't supposed to be like that, maybe I'll think about it again.

but then, I don't miss milk anyhow. would miss cheese.

(hey gals - love the couch fauxtato pic!)

Maybe the curds are separating from the whey - mine does that in the fridge sometimes if not disturbed. Try shaking it up before pouring it.

But DO shake it well, before pouring.

The bottles ought to tell you that, but "ought" ain't hardly ever "is" .... LOL!

Yes, I bought some bottles back when, and they only needed a good shake to pour well.

Hmmm, I bought a bottle tonight, and shook it up really well, and it started pouring out like thick milk, but then started coming out in globs. I still drank it though, it was yummy!
