What would happen if after you dried the grains, you put them in a zip lock bag and froze them without the dried milk? Would it be ok? Is it ok to dry them on paper towel or will they stick? Thanks Angel

Hi Angel - I always dry mine on a white paper towel. After they dry they roll right off.

Freezing them is not a requirement - dried grains are "shelf stable", but I put mine in the freezer after drying. The dry milk is a measure of protection I believe.

You can freeze grains without drying in some fresh milk. I've had good luck with both ways. I think I remember from Dom's site that the frozen fresh grains will keep for a year and the dried grains for 18 months.

Thanks Connie. I have extra grains and wanted to make sure that I wouldn't ruin them.

Just make sure you've dried them thoroughly. (<<< voice of experience, here. LOL!)

I did a batch once and didn't let them dry enough and I didn't freeze them. They grew mold and I wound up having to toss the whole lot of them.

Fortunately, I had a huge surplus at the time, so my basic "operation" remained intact.

Is it ok to freeze them in a ziplock bag? I dont have a glass container small enough to freeze them in. Do we include fresh milk or the Kefir?

Thanks!

This is not "reply"; this is a question. We can use kefir grains to make kefer.
We also can use kefir starter to make kefir. Can we use kefir to make kefir?

Not a reply; another question?
We may use kefir starter to make kefer which
contains kefir grains, correct?
Add kefer starter to milk. We get kefir which should contain kefer grains. Right?

No. Won't happen. I advise you to check out this very helpful site. By browsing around Dom's site, you'll learn a great deal about kefir.

Dear anyone or Maggie:

I tried to have five posts, so that I can put my e-mail address.
But I do not know how to post a question or an opinion.
I only know how to reply; But it is not a real reply; it is a stupid
way of posting a question. How do we have a POST?
Thank you very much. Sincerely john
