Vilhjalmur Stefansson is the guy used as an example in "Neanderthin." I read his article in which he describes his diet aventures with the Eskimos, and how doctors evaluated him after he returned to the US. Here is the link (I had to print all 37 pages)

http://www.biblelife.org/stefansson1.htm

It only took me two days to read the thing and I was astounded at what I learned. I wanted to ask,are you on or willing to go all-meat?

WOW! What a story. It was brilliant reading, but there is no way that I could live like that.....it certainly makes you think though.

Thanks for the article,
love Louloo.

Hey,

I've never read anything more intriguing on eating an all-meat diet. I don't know why this information (which is from the 1930's) hasn't been more widely published. It could have been used to prevent and heal many illnesses, in my opinion. The most suprising aspect was how healthy (and enviously so) those Eskimos were!

I tried going all meat for a few days, but I got the same weight loss results. And I'm sorry, but I missed my greens! In any case, at least the information is very good for those "suddenly stuck on abandoned island" situations.

Thanks for posting this. I haven't read it all yet, but I'm so glad to have it so readily available.

Louloo, what a great reader you are.

I read that article too. I'm on an all meat diet right now, started on the 23rd. I was already trying to at least eat close to an all meat diet before but ended up eating a lot of peanut butter. So far I've lost 13 pounds since the 20th and the meat fast seems to be accelerating my loss. It was real tough at first but it already seems to be getting easier. I just got some tilapia and have been frying that up for my meals and I love it. I won't eat this way forever, just to take off the last several pounds, I want variety in my diet. This is terrific for weight loss though. Of course when I add carbs back I'll need to do it very carefully.

I can't see how we can actually eat like the Inuit. They ate everything from the animal, eyes, brains, fat, organs, fish heads and tails, etc, plus some of it raw, well except maybe the fur if there was any, entrails or bone depending on the type of animal killed. Unless you eat the entire animal, I can't see where you would be getting all the nutrients you require. Also, the meat you buy in supermarkets comes from animals that were fed differently than those the Inuit ate. Most of supermarket meat comes from animals that are fed grains, corn, soy, etc. Although I eat a lot of meat, I like to supplement my diet with very high nutrition veggies like spinach, nuts, seeds and lots of eggs.

I agree with Kateryna about the nutritional aspect of all meat. Not only was the meat wild, and all parts consumed, but didn't they eat some (or a lot?) of it raw as well? Cooking destroys some nutrients, for example Vitamin C.

Xeles - hope you've added some vegetables by now. How are you doing?

I spent the weekend on a mostly meat diet. I went to a conference and was very busy. I packed sardines, pemmican, and crispy nuts. I had salad twice and broccoli once, but that's all the veggies for two days. Of course, nuts are plant food, so it wasn't an all-meat diet.

The pemmican worked great. It kept at room temperature and small amounts were very sustaining.

Since I did not find it in the Atkins book or CarbAddicts Diet, I am sure it was in Protien Power. (My copy is on loan to a friend right now.) I am refering to Mr.Stefansson's meat only diet "experiment" at Belevue Hospital. I was astounded and amazed when I read this. Dr.s Micheal and Mary Dan Eades included a couple of paragraphs about this in their CAD book. I was just looking around on this forum out of curiosity...maybe I'll stay and read awhile....

We'd love to talk with you about cave-style eating.
