Hi Everyone,

You must all think that I have died because I have not been on here for so long, LOL

I still have to catch up with all the posts again, I am glad to see that it is still busy here.

I am still following Paleo but my health is the problem. I have had loads more nerve tests done and still they can't find out where the damage is....this is separate to my back.....so I have to wait and have more done, they are painful and I am not looking forward to more of them. Also I have to have a brain scan because they still can't rule out MS....I am still on the waiting list for my back operation.

Tomorrow I go in for an op on my in-grown toe nails......both big toes.....not looking forward to it, but it has to be done.

Well, that's me and now you are up to date.

I am still eating little and often, I have lost and put back on the same 3 pounds, but I have lost inches and am now wearing a comfortable size 14.

I love the new look to the site and I have tried to upload 2 photo's but I don't know whether or not I did it right.

I will try and get back here over the weekend and try to catch up with some of you who know me......I have missed you all.

Take care for now,
love Louloo. x

Hi, Louloo!

I've sure missed you and I've been hoping that you're ok. Thanks so much for checking in!

I'm so sorry you have all these health problems. It's even more frustrating when the docs can't figure out what's wrong and you have to do all those awful tests.

I'm swinging away on my paleo woe. I've managed to lose a few pounds, not many, but I'm celebrating any change in the right direction.

I've been doing more exercise too, especially walking. That's been really good for me.

I hope you can spend more time hanging out in the lce cave!

Ta ta for now,

HI Alice,

Lovely to be back here again. I only have a minute tonight. The toe op went ok but as I take steroids I bled more than I should have and have to keep my legs raised for the rest of the day.....the numbness has worn off and it is quite painful now.

I am glad that you are continuing to do well on Paleo, it is the best I think. Like you I am losing very slowly but unlike you, I can't exercise, LOL

Hope to be back sometime tomorrow,

take care,

Hi again,

Had to have the dressing changed today and everything fine......no pain, just the risk of bleeding and brusing because of the steroids.

Is Barb still here...did you change over from Atkins, I know that you were wavering on the edge, LOL. I do hope that we can chat later.

I lost a pound this week, not bad if you think that I have hardly moved out of my chair for a while.

Will catch up again over the weekend hopefully,

take care,

HI, Louloo,

Glad your toe is fine and pain better.

When you have time, check out the "off your Moo" thread on the challenge club forum. Barb has been busy trying to invent coconut cheese!

Barb and Sharron and I were making coconut kefir, and Barb is determined to turn it into cheese! I love the coconut kefir - I eat some every day with my berries.

If you want to try it, we can try to get some kefir grains to you. I don't know how, and I don't have many, but Barb knows all about sending them to people. I can't remember discussing it before - do you like coconut and coconut milk? It can really take the place of some of the cream-type goodies that we paleo types don't eat.

I just loved the pictures you posted - it's so nice to be able to see your face! I will try to get some of mine into the albums as well, so you all can see me.

Hi Alice,

It will be lovely when we all post our pictures, it is so nice to see what each of us looks like.....sometimes the difference in what you imagine someone looks like and reality is very different, LOL I love this new site, everything is so easy to use and find things.

I have had a giggle today when I went to get my dressings changed. It was raining and I was all done up in rain coat and umbrella and these stupid flip flops.....blue with bows on...what a sight I looked, I was really embarrassed. But at least the dressing is a normal size now. I still have to wear open shoes though, it is much too sore to try anything else just yet.

I read a lot of the 'Off your Moo' posts and it was great, they are doing brilliantly.

I do love coconut but I don't like coconut milk so I don't think that I will like the kefir, and as I only eat one ounze of cheese and no other dairy I am not going to worry about leaving everything out. But thanks for your offer. I am glad it is working for you.

Please try and post your pics when you have a minute. It is much easier now than trying to get them on a web site first and then trying to get the link to work, I never did work that out.

I will be back over the weekend so hopefully I can catch up on all the posts then.

Take care,
love Louloo. x

Thanks for the welcome back, I am glad to be here, I have missed you all so much.

How are you doing and what have you been up to lately?

Nothing much happening here, the weather is typical April showers. When the sun is out it is really warm but when the rain starts it is freezing cold and I have to put on the heating, it is very strange weather.

I have my weigh in tomorrow but I don't know if I have lost any this week. It is strange how one week you can lose so much and the next you lose nothing, even though I haven't done anything any different, LOL.

Anyway, get back to me so that I can try and catch up with what everyone is doing.

Take care,
love Louloo. x

still hanging in with my plan. Weight loss is slow and that is about it. Sorry to hear about your toe nails. Hope you are feeling better. I sure got a visual with the blue sandles and bandages.

How is your cholesterol?

HI Connie,

Those sandals still make me laugh too. My toes are taking a long time to heal. I was told it was because of the amount of steroids that I take.....they don't hurt but I still cannot wear shoes, so I have to stay in, it is too cold to go out in flip flops, LOL

Sorry that you are struggling a bit at the moment. I only lost a pound when I weighed today but I lost 2 more inches as well, so hopefully things are on the way down again.

I have to see the doctor in 2 hours time, I am going to ask about the cholesterol then. I eat hardly any fat now so it should be ok.

I do not have much of an appetite so I try to just eat things that are really good for me so that I get all the nutrients etc.

Colin has bought me a large dark chocolate easter egg...........I will only have a small bit now and then.

What about you, will you be having chocolate for Easter......let me know.

I will try to get back later, so take care,
love Louloo. x

Wink Re: I'm Back again!

Hi Everyone,

How are you all doing? It has been quiet on here lately.

Did you all get through Easter without eating too much chocolate. I must say that I ate most of my egg from Colin, it was lovely, but I did share it all around the family and not keep it all to myself, LOL

I have to weigh in tomorrow, it will be a miracle if I have lost any weight this week. Today we were out for lunch with friends and I had the fish but I had some french fries as well, just a couple.

My toes are still painful and I was told it would be another 6 to 8 weeks to heal properly. I have to bathe them in salt water and re-dress them every day so the blue flip flops are still being used.

I have had a very painful week with my back problems, I wish the operation would hurry up.

I will post my weight tomorrow, regardless of whether or not I lose or gain......I hope to stay the same, that is the best I can hope for this week I think.

Where is Barb, she hasn't posted on Paleo lately...is she sticking with Atkins?

Take care,
love Louloo. x

Hi, Louloo, :butterfly

I'm so glad you checked in, now we can have a nice chat.

Still in the flip-flops, eh? I can just picture you going out in your nice proper raincoat with the silly old flip-flops on your feet. I hope the weather is not too cold over there!

I had a bit of a cold/flu kind of thing last week. I didn't seem very sick - but I was so tired, I felt exhausted all the time. I'm back to normal this week, thank goodness.

I bet a bit of chocolate and a few french fries won't be that big a problem for you. Once you're back to good old cave-style eating you'll start losing again.

I did fine over Easter - just one non-paleo thing. We went out Sunday evening to a restaurant that had few choices for the lowcarber. I ended up with a big main dish salad with cheese. It never occurred to me until just now that I could have asked them to leave off the cheese.

I've been a real "ball of fire" working around the house this week, and no "stiffness/achiness," so I'm not regretting the cheese indulgence.

I saw a new low number on the scale Sunday morning: 220.5! (By my calculations 15 stone 10.5 pounds in your system) Of course, I haven't seen it again since, but it's always nice to see a change in the right direction.

I have to go to jury duty tomorrow. It means driving for an hour to get to the courthouse, then sitting around waiting all day. I planned ahead by going to the library and getting some nice new books, and now I have to make a lunch. I have some lovely leftover roast beef, so I'm thinking a few slices of that and some lettuce. If I pack some of my frozen fruit, it will help keep the whole thing cold until lunch time.

I read on your profile that you're a knitter! Me too! Though I've been in a knitting slump for about a year and I've hardly done anything. Knitting would be wonderful to take to jury duty, but I believe that ever since 9/11 the courthouse authorities have classed knitting needles as lethal weapons.

Good news on the fruit front: I've been putting some slices of frozen peach in with my berries every day and it hasn't changed my losing pattern (still slow). I'm going to have the occasional half grapefruit as well.

I've been overdoing the nuts, especially when I was feeling so tired. I know I do best when I'm mostly eating meat and vegetables, but nuts and a bit of fruit are so easy! Now that I'm feeling better I'm going to cut back on nuts and make lots of yummy m&v dishes.

I'm glad you can do fruit and nuts. Not just because you like them, but I bet you appreciate the ease factor too. It shows the versatility of the paleo woe.

You take care of those toes - keep bathing them and all that. I hope you get your back operation soon - waiting must be driving you crazy!

Barb started working at the beginning of March, she hasn't had as much time to post as she did before. I miss her too!

Wish me luck on jury duty tomorrow. I've always thought it would be interesting to serve on a jury, but that would mean dh would have to take more time off work to be with our 8 and 11 year old. I've gone twice before, and never even got interviewed.

Bye for now,

Love from your paleo pal,

Alice

Hi Alice,

What a wonderful, chatty post, just what I needed today. Would you believe that I lost 2 more pounds and 3 more inches of fat today.....I was totally amazed. That brings me down to 170 pounds, so it is slow but sure this time.

Yes, I love knitting Aran.... with all the facy twists and cables, they are my favourites, I have knitted for all my friends there is always someone that wants one of my jackets, but I have carpel tunnel in both wrists so I can't knit much now.

Wow, the jury eh? I have always dreaded being called for the jury service. Colin was called when we were first married, the case lasted 2 weeks, I hope your's is much quicker.

I miss Barb, I haven't managed to catch up with her at all yet. How did her classes go? You went as a guest speaker, didn't you? I bet it was a lot of fun.....give her my love if you see or speak to her.

I am sorry that you were unwell. Nearly everyone here has had some bug or other. My poor little grandsons have all had sickness and diarrhea, I had the sickness too but missed the other, thankfully. The weather was great over Easter but today it has gone cold and wet again.

Colin has finished my kitchen and it looks wonderful, I am so pleased with it. His next project was putting a pitched roof on the garage with our neighbour and that is also finished and it gives them loads of storage space in the roof, so they are both pleased with it and I am pleased because he can now move his stuff out of my cupboards, LOL

My poor toes are not healing well, but I know it will take a long time so I have to be patient. I can now wear peep toe shoes or sandals which are much more substantial than flip flops, lol, and much more comfortable.

I am waiting for the appointments to come through for the brain scan and the nerve tests, I hope they come soon so that I can maybe rule out MS.....I know that there is nerve damage but I am also hoping that it is contained to the carpel tunnel in my wrists, it is the not knowing that drives me mad.

I have only been waiting 4 months for my back operation and I was told it will be at least 9 months, so I have quite a wait yet.....the only good thing is that if I continue to lose weight it will help my recovery, so another 4 or 5 months should get me down to about 150 or less with a bit of luck.

My WOE is going well. I do continue to eat cheese and nuts with lots of oranges, strawberries, lean meat, veggies including carrots which I like raw, and of course salads coming out of my ears. I also eat a little bit of very dark, 70% cocoa, chocolate, it is thought to be good for you, so I have a little piece every day.......I think this is why I don't crave things too much.

Because of spinal stenosis and everything else I can't exercise very well so I stretch out every morning before I get out of bed, to be honest, I have to ease my poor old bones back into shape, I am very painful in the mornings.......it has also had a very positive impact on the inches that I am losing, so that is good too. Now if only I can walk after my op I will be in heaven, LOL

I had better stop here or I may get told off for writing too much. It is lovely to be back and talking to you all again.

Have you heard anything from Dryad? Give her my love if you do.

Take care and good luck with the jury,
love Louloo. x

Hi, Louloo!

Well, the jury thing didn't amount to anything. Forty of us stayed in a room all day (actually, they let us go at 2:30 pm, and even gave us a two hour lunch break) and there was never a call for a jury. Nobody got interviewed at all.

Yes, I was dreading getting into one of those two-week trials like poor Colin. My dh was on a jury a number of years ago, but I think the trial lasted only a couple of days. Another interesting thing is that dh and ds#1 (age 20) both were called for jury duty in April as well. Dh got interviewed but not selected for a jury; ds goes next week, we'll see how it goes for him.

With that nice two-hour lunch break, I took a 4-mile walk. Fun to explore a new neighborhood. And I had time to eat my paleo lunch back in the jury room.

It's really hot here today - up in the 80's. Do you guys measure your temperatures in Celsius? Don't know how to translate that. 80's can be nice in summer, but in April we're not ready for it and the trees don't have their leaves yet to make nice cooling shade.

Barb's support group didn't work out the way we had hoped. We got several new people the first week, and Barb had a go at the talk she had prepared on the myths of lowcarbing. She had great handouts, lots of good information. We were meeting in a restaurant and the atmosphere wasn't the most conducive to a class, so it was more of a social time. Ilse (kokle/laffingbead) from lce was there too.

Then the next time was two weeks later. It was just Ilse, Barb, and me - none of the new people came back. Barb knew she would be starting her job soon and we decided to just let it go for a while.

Barb seems to post regularly on the April Couch Fauxtato Challenge Club thread. She has visited here in paleo on the Stalking the Wild Day Lily thread. I will definitely send her your greetings.

I would love to hear more from Dryad too, I haven't got to know her at all yet.

Congratulations on your losses!!! :jump: That's just great. You only have 20 or so to lose now!!! How wonderful if you can be down to 150 or less by the time you have your operation!!

Colin sounds like a very handy guy to have around the house! Congratulations on your new kitchen. We need to do some work on ours, but don't hold your breath waiting to hear about it. We are very good at procrastinating on home improvement projects.

Glad you can wear more normal shoes now. Please keep us posted as you have your medical tests and procedures. I was sure worried about you when you weren't able to post for so long.

Too bad the carpal tunnel thing keeps you from knitting. When we get the photo albums back, maybe you could post a picture showing some of your work. I hope to do the same.

Well, this is real long, so I will close now. Take care, Louloo!

Alice

Hi Alice,

I am sorry that your day was wasted and you didn't get called for the jury, but I expect, like me, you were really pleased not to have to do it. Your husband and son now have to go through the same process, you would think that there would be a better way of selecting people than having them hang about all day, wouldn't you?.....it's good that you had time for a good walk and browse around though.

Yes we do our temperatures the same as you but I still stick to the old degrees myself as well.........it is about 15 here so that is a big difference to where you are. But 80 is high for the time of year, God help you in the summer. I can't seem to take the heat as I get older........a nice steady high 60's early 70's suits me down to the ground.

I am sorry that Barb's project didn't really get off the ground, but if she was starting a new job, maybe it wasn't a bad thing in the end. I will have to visit her in the other forum as I keep missing her here, LOL

My hubbie, Colin, is a very handy person to know, but it is not always good because when I want something new he will either repair it or upgrade it, do you know what I mean? But on the whole it is wonderful that he is so handy as we have a lovley home and it is always up to date.

Thanks for congrats on my little weight loss. I am really trying to get those pounds off fast now so that I will have a better recovery from surgery. My doctor said another 10 pounds will do but I want to get rid of more than 20 pounds, but every bit counts between now and the operation day.

Nothing much happening here at the moment. Tonight we are going around the corner to our friends to play cards for a couple of hours, there are six of us altogether and we have been friends for 30 years and have our holidays and nearly everything else together, so that will be a nice night, we play all the old 60's records and sing-a-long with them, plus a couple of drinks or 3 or more for everyone except me. I take too much medication to drink anything else but water.....but I still enjoy myself.

Sunday we have my mum and Colin's mum here for lunch, they are both widows in their 80's and it is nice to have them together because they can enjoy a little natter, they know one another very well and get on really well together.

How is your weight loss going? You have been a bit quiet about it or I have missed it in your posts, I hope that you are losing weight too.

Well, have a great weekend and take care,
love Louloo. x

Hi, Louloo,

The 60's sing-a-long sounds like a wonderful party to me. I was 12 in 1964 when the Beatles "invaded" the US. I was a "Paul-girl" LOL. My younger sons have become Beatles fans and they have quite a collection of their CDs, so it's fun for me to hear the old songs again.

I've lost about 5 pounds since I started posting on lce, so I'm happy with that. It seems very slow, but as long as it keeps going the right way, I know I'll get there. I hope in a few weeks I'll get below 220 - I'll call for a celebration then, it will be the lowest I've been in about 12 years.

Temps in the 80's are not fun this time of year. It's so weird to be hot and not have shade from the trees. Our house still has most of the storm windows up, so we can't cool off inside easily. I don't like hot weather either. Summers here in the American midwest can be brutal, I ususally end up welcoming the coming of cool weather in the fall.

It's nice to have the mums both living near you. My parents, and Steve's, are all in their 80's, but living far away. Steve is from California, we don't get together with his family very often - it's been three years now. Mine are closer, we visit several times a year, but I often wish we lived in the same city.

The jury system is much better now than it used to be. People used to have to serve for two weeks and could serve for one trial after another until the time was up. Now, it's one day/one trial. Having gone and wasted one day, they can't call me again for a year. In practice, I've had to go about once every three years. As duties of citizenship go it's not as much fun as voting, but as it's necessary to maintain the right of trial by jury I can accept it. It's only a day later, but the memory is already fading. But, you're right, I'm glad I didn't get put on a jury and have to go back on Monday.

We're going to tackle some of our house projects today, especially in the kitchen. We took off the old floor and are down to some nice hardwood. I'm going to scrub off the last remnants of the old floor, and then I need to call the floor refinishing guys to come sand and varnish it. Once that's done, we'll look into getting some new cabinets.

Bye bye, talk again soon

Alice

Hi Alice,

Yes my kids love the sixties songs too, and everywhere we go they are the tunes that gets everyone up to dance, without fail.....it was certainly a wonderful era.

As to your weather, we are all getting funny weather patterns, it has to be the global warming. I feel for you though as you get very hot summers anyway you can do without the high temperatures now......it looks as though our summer is going to be a wet one. Our winters are getting milder and our summers wetter, or so we have been told.

Congrats on losing 5 pounds, it is wonderful how easily it comes off on Paleo even though it is slow, it is coming off without us being hungry at all, so that means a lot and makes us stay with it.

I understand a bit about your jury service now, but once every three years? I have never been called and I hope that I never will be, LOL at least not to a serious case.

Well, I am off to have my shower and gargle my throat ready for our singing session tonight, haha.

Take care, will get back probably Monday now as I will be busy all day tomorrow, making sure that our mum's have a nice time.

Look after yourself,
love Louloo. x

HI, Louloo,

How was the party? Did you have fun with the mums?

Our conversation about the Beatles has inspired me to start another song parody. This one is to the tune of "She Loves You." (What a great song - so happy)

Hope to get it posted soon.

Hi Alice,

We had a great night singing away to all the oldies. Your new song sounds like fun and yes, it is a great tune to sing-a-long to, LOL, look forward to seeing it in print.

Our mum's had a nice visit and enjoyed their lunch. They also ate choc ices and fruit cake with their afternoon tea.......sadly for me, I joined them, I coudn't resist. :-(

Then our son brought the little grandsons over to see their great nan's and it was bedlam for an hour, I think we were all pleased when the boys went back home, ha-ha.

I am hoping to lose 2 pounds this week, I weigh in on Friday and even with the cheats I think that I might do it......fingers crossed because I want to get down to the next weight bracket.....I will then be 11 stone something, 166 or 167, instead of 12 stone something, 169 or 170..it will begin to look as if I CAN do it after all this time, LOL

How are you getting on, when do you weigh in, have you lost any more weight this week? All these questions...nosey, arn't I, ha-ha.

The weather is awful here, all rain, rain and more rain. We have been promised a nice weekend and I pray that this is true, the sun always makes you feel better in yourself, don't you think so?

Still no news on my appointments, so more waiting, better luck next week, maybe....I hate waiting around, don't you?

Well, get on with the song and then we can all have a giggle.

Take care,
love Louloo. x
