Since many of us make reference of Reward Meals being misinterpreted as "binges" or "carb fests" I wonder if anyone would be willing to share her standard Reward Meal menu(s)? In order to give newbies like myself a better idea of a realistic goal for a reward meal?

Ie. my regular RM might be a salad, followed by an entree ranging from some chicken and rice, or maybe a piece of lasagna, and followed by a few oatmeal raisin cookies or on another night, a piece of cheesecake. I'm not sure how this stacks up to other RMs enjoyed by succesful CADs committed to an eating plan they can maintain for life (versus a "diet" if you know what I mean).

WriterMom,

I usually have ...

a big salad with lettuce and cucumber - sometimes a little cheese, tomato, and avocado (if I have it)
entree ( this can vary so much) - examples... one or two slices of pepperoni pizza, bowl of chili, swiss chicken w/stuffing, 1/2 to whole bean and cheese burritto - it varies so much I can't even think of what else. If you'd like and you think it would help I could PM or email you what I have every night

Sometimes I have a beer (Miller Lite) or two with dinner. Sometimes I have an LC treat, i.e. Russel Stover (sp?) pecan/chocolate/caramel candy.

I don't usually have an actual real dessert - at least not on a daily basis. I'm sure if I did that my weight loss would be much slower, and I don't want that. Perhaps I might do that once I'm down to my goal and just trying to maintain.

Some nights my RM isn't very balanced and more of a carb-fest, but I try not to do that too often.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you want me to PM or post daily RMs.

WriterMom, I started posting my journal again under the name of "Kokles Journal". I post daily food intake and the points I think I am taking in.

I try to have a meat entree, like grilled chicken, grilled burgers. I tend not to have too much in the way of potatoes or rice or pasta. I usually have a big serving of LC veggies with my RM. I am more likely to get a big salad with a take-out food RM. I really like getting the 4 corn tacos at Chipotle. I have them put on lots of veggies and it's a feast.

Recently, my evening snack is a SF kool-aide shake, with a bit of heavy cream, some Spleda, water, ice, a bit of powdered egg yolk and some blender time.

Ilse, like your idea of the SF kool-aide shake. Is there any reason you add some powdered egg yolk? I'm really trying to kick the bottom out of my cholesterol so I only eat the egg whites....do you have any other shake or frozen treats up your sleve??

Scrat,

I posted a couple of recipes in the Low-carb cooking forum. One is for a protein shake (I make a chocolate one). The other is for a chocolate raspberry shake. I add the egg white powder, because it makes the shake really frothy. I do maybe 1-2 tsp of egg white powder.

Here is the link for the protein shake http://lowcarbeating.infopop.cc/6/ub...4&m=2986033414

and for the chocolate raspberry shake using SF koolaide http://lowcarbeating.infopop.cc/6/ub...4&m=5856033414

Well, I will say, the big salad I had with dinner yesterday did not offset the bread in my Italian beef sandwich, the 1/2 order of fries, the banana and the sugar in the ice cream I had last night. And lunch was too salty. I guess with getting older, I need to really cut down on salt and the carbs. Frustrating!!

We went to a Cajun restaurant in Chicago on Michigan Ave, along the Magnificent Mile. We walked a lot after that, so I hope that offset many of the carbs.

I had a shrimp po'boy sandwich, gumbo soup, a salad, dressing on the side, coleslaw and an order of collard greens. I was trying to get lot's of veggies in there. All of it was delicious!

Kokle,
Thanks for the info....I really have a thing for cold stuff...like my son's 25th birthday ice cream cake...beer, etc., etc., we took him out for dinner and he was surprized that the only "bad" thing I had was the beer We had his cake yesterday and I did well there and only had two bites of his cake. I printed out your shake recipes but will have to pick up some of the items to make them....thanks again!!!

My rm's haven't been much different then my atkins menu except I add a little of whatever the rest of the family is eating too. Last night it was grilled chops, cauli-mash, salad and homemade macaroni and cheese. The night before it was some ground beef stroganaff over noodles, salad, and broccoli. It's working and I don't feel left out. OH! I ate at IHOP the other day. It was a chicken mexican omlette and pancakes!! I could only take a few bites of the pancakes but they were so good!

KC,

Do you feel like you are sensitive to carbs? I feel like I am. I was just wondering why just a bit of the pancakes. ?

Yesterday, we went to a Japanses supermarket in Arlington Heights. (Algonquin Rd & Arlington Heights Rds called Mitsuwa) I wanted to get some stuff there. They have a food court with various Japaneses foods, a lot of udon soups, some tempuras. I got breaded pork. It came with rice and miso soup that I did not eat. It was over a layer of cabbage. And it had a side salad. WE also bought an order of sushi to share. I was probably somewhat high on the carbs, but the meal satisfied me for hours. We had lunch at 10:30 and ate dinner after 7pm.

I feel like I really messed up today. I had gone home for lunch. I wasn't hungry at the time, so I didn't make any food to bring to eat later. (I take a lunch from 9:30am-10:20am and try to eat after 12:15pm)

So, 12:15 rolls around and I am really hungry. I ended up buying a container of Chinese food at school. It was deep-fried chicken and rice. I ate all of it. There were no veggies. I won't have a chance to get any veggies to eat until after 3pm. I hate to think what this unbalance meal is going to do to my system. I'll find out tomorrow.

Bummer!!

Hi,

I'm new here too, but I thought I'd contribute My RM is breakfast because I don't want to spend the day feeling like I'm starving. Although this is probably not a very balanced example, I have:

-a glass of orange juice (to stave off colds)

-two bowls of multi-grained multi-fruit cereal with soy milk.

-water (because I get thirsty in the morning)

That usually satisfies me. I used to eat junkfood in my RM but my body started demanding not to eat it. It is a strange thing to have the body demand GOOD food vs. JUNK food first thing in the morning, but I give it what it wants! Hope that helps.

I found that I can get my Vitamin C by adding a bit of Vitamin C crystals to hot tea. It gives the tea a lemony taste and is very potent. I also found that when I was eating cereal every day, (when I tried Somersizing) I was always hungry, so it didn't work for me. (I mean hungry even after a good CM meal) I use my protein shakes in the morning as a CM to stave off hunger. That works very well for me.

Unfortunately, you are not following the principals of a RM with what you do eat. You are supposed to have carbs, LC veggies and protein. You get some protein from the cereal and milk, but this meal is wildly unbalance on the carb side.

Hey Ilse,

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to review the guidelines and see what veggie I can throw in.
