Hi all. I have been doing Atkins for the last 7 weeks or so and still have not lost anything. I am getting kind of frustrated. It seems like I just keep on losing and gaining the same 2- 3 lbs. I have about 75-85 lbs to lose to get to my goal weight. Would switching to CAD help me? I guess I am kind of in the situation that I am afraid to add back in carbs from induction. I am wondering if doing the CAD program would help.

Thanks for the assistance!

Doing CAD would introduce a lot more carbs into your system than Atkins do, all in one meal. You might gain a bit a first, but other people who have switched are glad they did.

Otherwise, you might try adding some more carbs in to you diet on Atkins. If you stay away from enough carbs for too long, you could end up telling your system that you are starving it, as it is not getting all the nutrition it needs. And, that could be why you haven't been losing.

I post a journal daily if that helps to see what at least one CAD person eats every day. Let us know if you join us!

Ok, the more I read about CALP, the more I think it is for me! I am making my way through atkins but I will admit, there have been a lot of cheats. I am not proud of myself but it happened and I cannot change that. I haven't lost anything in awhile, a month or so. Not because of a stall but because I am not following it the way it should be. It is hard, in my opinion, to eat supper with my boyfriend and not want what he is having. And I am NOT creative in the kitchen, and have no money to be experimenting all the time so my suppers are usually meat and veggies...not too appetizing everyday!

Since I have rambled long enough, I will ask my questions now, if I can even remember them
Would I be able to eat smaller, more frequent meals througout the day (I only read half the CALP book so far) Also, I have dinner later, say about 8 but I work at 12am so I tend to get hungry after supper. Can I have low carb snacks at ALL after my RM or is that the last time to eat for the evening? And lastly, Ilse, I have been reading your journal and look forward to seeing all your examples! Do you always eat a salad before your RM?

Thanks for all of your help!

No, I don't eat a salad at every RM. In the CALP book, snacks are allowed. Just make sure they are LC veggies together with protein from the allowed lists.

Other LC snacks would be considered part of the RM. Also, the Heller's don't consider net carbs.

When you do your RM, just make sure it's balanced. I sometimes have more than 1/3 of LC veggies, but that's ok. Just don't have more than 1/3 of carbs.

When I first started CALP, I would make a big pot of soup consisting of various cabbages, some celery, onion, whatever LC veggie seemed tasty. I would add chicken, pork, shrimp or whatever meat I had on hand. Whenever I would get hungry, I would eat this soup, sometimes 2-3 bowlfuls. I think it helped, as it was a perfect CM or CS. Now, when I make the soup, I tend to bloat from the sodium (like today). I need to find a different way of doing this.

Hi, just decided to do a lo carb life style. Have been on Adkins since April of 2003. But lately have been reading both South Beach and now Carb Addict's Diet. Adkins has worked for me but need variety to stay the course. I eat out a lot...live alone and travel a great deal. Started at 165 and now 138. Want to go down to about 120 as I am only 5'. How is it working for others?

Fran,

CAD will work if you stick with it. Of course, each person is different. I have heard that people coming over from Atkins may gain a tad to start, but once the system gets used to the new WOE, it comes back off. If you start CAD, stay in touch and let us know how it is going.

Hi Dinksmuse, Steph, and Fran,

CALP is working very well for me. I am a person who has trouble sticking with an eating plan and this is about the easiest thing to stick to that I have found. It's very flexible and you can have ANYTHING for your RM as long as it is balanced. I haven't accomplished the balanced thing yet, but I am still making progress (so far--I know one of these days I'm going to have to tackle that!). Steph, with CALP you can have snacks (off the CM list) when you are hungry. I think the only restriction is that it shouldn't be less than 1.5-2 hours before or after you RM. I do best when I eat my RM a little later and then "close up the kitchen" for the night. BUt I have always been very much a night eater, snacker, binger.

Welcome to the board and I hope you decide to join us if you decide to follow this plan!

Amy

Hi,

Still reading the CAD book. Last night I tried the Rewards meal while I was at a restaurant.. Seems to be working. Have done this several times in the past while eating out. Hope this will work. Had grilled salmon, caeser salad and about 1/2 c. rice pilaf. So far, so good.
My weight was even down this morning.
