I am a lifetime member of ww. I started back last January needing to lose a solid 25 pounds. I struggled with losing and went up and down like crazy for 6 months. Now when I look back at my food journal I can see why since 85% of what I was consuming were carbs! (including just 2 point bars, etc.) My naturalpath put me on a low carb/whole foods program and I have finally lost 16 pounds and am feeling so much more in control! So I was happy to see my ww leader and have a chance to explain why I wasn't coming. She asked and I told her that ww provided way too many triggers for me. That planning my day around when I can have a skinny cow (low point ice cream treat) was wreaking havoc on my weight. I said I just couldn't listen to the conversations about how to eat low point foods which were also high carb and causing me to crave and justify my poor eating habits. It was interesting because she said that if I ever wanted to return they do offer an alternative low-carb eating plan for those who are interested. WHAT? I'm surprised that on one hand they're taking a stand against low-carb eating and yet they're offering a plan? They need to get with the program and revise their plan so everyone can be successful...but then who would return to ww to pay more money if they found long term success? Interesting! Thanks for listening!

That's interesting they are going back to that way of thinking. If you go WAAAAAAY back to the first WW program, it's very low carb. I remember, years ago when my mom was going.

I too am a WW liftime member. About 14 years ago I lost 35 lbs and kept it off for a few months. A few years ago I went back to WW twice (needing to lose about 80). Even though I followed the plan exactly, I couldn't lose anything. Money wasted!! Now, after all the reading I've done on low carbing, I realize why that plan was the worst for me. You're right. 85% of the food a WW can eat through the day is high carb.

My DH has started WW again. He lost most of his weight about a year ago, but stopped going to meetings, then stopped eating the way he should. It's a good plan for him, but not for me.

Keep us filled in as to what that low carb WW plan is. I'm interested.

The same week the meeting on carbs took place, they also gave handouts. One is a "Quick and Easy Guide to Higher Protein Eating" and the other is a "Quick and Easy Guide to Higher Carb Eating". Basically, both sheets give you choices of certain types of foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (ex Choose 1 protein, 1 carb for breakfast for higher protein WOE)(they give the portions for the choices). The higher carb give: choose 3 various carb choices. They also had a "Points Pie" that gives you the number of points a person should spend on each type of food. The higher protein pie for people under 250 pounds gives: 0-1 points fruits, 5-6 points grain-based foods, 9-11 points protein-rich foods, 4-6 points milk and milk products, 2-4 points added sugars, added fats, and alcohols. The proportions are different for those who want more carbs per day. This is the essence of the Lower-carb WW plan.

I have been doing WW since Oct of 2002. I do the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet in conjuction with WW. At this points, I think I am starting "The Change". I know my WL is slow, but it does happen, as I am under 230 pounds and started WW at 304.6.
