I stood up for LC at WW

AS many of you know, I combine doing CAD/CALP and WW. I have been on WW since the beginning of October, 2002. I lost 25 pounds strictly on WW and 50 more with the two combined.

When I go to meetings, I am usually pretty vocal about doing a combination of the two plans. (what doing WW with CAD does is gets me to eat lower fat and not to overeat most of the time, which is good for my DH)

I attended two meetings this week, as each leader has their own style of presenting the materials. I wasn't quite as vocal at the first meeting, though I did point out that the suggested list of food choices for someone who wants to eat higher protein choices was low on veggies. (1 serving for lunch, 1 serving for dinner)(a serving is one cup)

At the second meeting, I explained what Atkins is designed to be, induction for a couple of weeks, followed by adding in carbs at a rate of 5g per week. I let them know that Atkins advised starting with LC veggies as extra carbs, then, maybe, LC fruits, like strawberries. I explained that discussion boards like this one advise drinking at least a gallon of water a day. I briefly explained how I do LC.

In short, I did what I could to defend the LC way of eating. And to dispell the myth that it's all meat, eggs, and bacon, and not much else.

Good for you, Ilse.

You are a shining example of how anyone can make lc work for them.

THANK YOU, Ilse!

I really think that WW was at a crossroads and they knew it. I know for a fact that they *toyed* with the idea of doing a low-carb plan, but apparently, decided against it.
Unfortunately, it appears that they have taken the wrong *road* in their desperate attempt to stay relevant in today's weightloss circles...
That's too bad as I have always had respect for the organization as a whole. I wish they would realize that conceding to low carb is not throwing away all they have been teaching for these past many years. I wish they could see that the two could complement each other -- as you are living proof!
Thanks for defending our WOL.

So Ilse, what was their reaction to this??? Did anyone try to refute what you said? Just curious.

My leader, (who is no longer my leader, as I will not go to St Charles anymore due to distance) knew from before that I was LC-ing. She took my information as a way of educating the WW members on what Atkins is supposed to be and that when it fails, it fails because people are doing what they think they should instead of what Dr Atkins said the WOE should be done.

Noone said anything to me afterward. But, if someone tried to refute me, I have a 150 weight loss, 125 of which is due to LC-ing. I think that says a lot.

Yesterday, I went to a new meeting, new leader, new location. I brought up that I have lost 75 pounds since starting WW and 150 total. The leader asked how I did it. I metioned it takes time and that I have to do LC. So, I'm trying to let people know the LC works for me!
