Just started the carbohydrate addicts diet a few days ago and already have some questions.

On a reward meal where you are supposed to split your meal into 3rds, what do you do if your wife made venison sloppy joes? Or casserole? Or anything that have both carbs and the others (veggies and meat)?

Do you suppliment with vitamins and minerals?

What do you drink? I find myself craving with incredible intensity the iced tea my wife makes. It is sweetened.

The first two days of the diet, I gained 3 pounds - what is up with that? I lost it now but that was kinda weird!

And why am I starting to hate meat and eggs? I used to love them!!

    Thanks all, JS

    Well, JS,
Welcome to the CAD/CALP thread! I'll try and answer your questions the best I can, and maybe someone else will chime in too. On the casserole type meal, I think I would eat my large salad and then have a normal portion size of the casserole dish and that's it. I would count it as all three items...carbs, protein, carb reducing veggies. As for supplements, the Heller's recommend the GTF Chromium for sure; I take that first thing in the am, then follow with my regimen after breakfast which is Vit E, B6, C complex, Echinacea, and 1 prescription med my doc has me on. As to what to drink....WATER!!! I can't stress enough what an impact sufficient amounts of water can make for your weight loss. One recommendation is to drink half your body weight in ounces...ie if you weigh 200lbs, drink 100 oz of H2O. On rare occasions, treat yourself to the tea and use stevia or splenda, but only with the reward meal, as the Hellers believe ANY sweet taste triggers an insulin release. Why do you hate meat and eggs now??...that I'm not sure about, but maybe due to over consumption and you are just plain "burned out" on them. I know it's not easy, but try to be more creative with your breakfast if you can. Personally, I do better with less options sometimes, so turkey bacon and a scrambled egg or two work for me.
Post often and let us know how its going for you.

    Shelley, thanks for the response.

How is the diet going for you? Have you been able to stick to it easily? I find that by the time my reward meal rolls around I could eat a bucketload of bread!

I can drink sweetened tea at the reward meal, correct? And for that matter, anything else I want and as much as I want as long as there is an equal amount of meats and veggies to go along with it, correct?

The meat and eggs every morning makes me feel like a lard ball, it's hard to explain. It is almost as if my body is simply rejecting it, or I guess it could be my mind.

I am definitely going to do the Chromium suppliment and maybe one or two others.

On the casserole you said you would have the salad and a normal portion of the casserole and that is it. Shouldn't I be able to eat more of it if I'm still hungry. That is if it is truly an equal supply of all three foods?

    Thanks much for your help.

    JS,

When I first started CALP, I drank Diet Ice Tea and used Equal (aspartame/Nutra-sweet). I lost weight, but had strong sugar cravings.

I don't drink the ice tea now. It is loaded with caffeine. I read that can stimulate an insulin response, which we don't want.

I now used Splenda, and do not normally struggle with sugar cravings.

As far as the RM goes. You can have seconds, but make sure that the seconds are still in the 1/3 1/3 1/3 balance.

I will sometimes make etouffee, which is a Cajun dish with rice and spices. I add meat and LC veggies to make it more balanced. I may also eat more LC veggies on the side to make sure I am getting enough.

I find that if I did my carbs right the day before, I do not wake up hungry. If I ate too many carbs the day before, I wake up very hungry.

I got the GTF Chromium at Fruitful Yield (Here's Health). I believe my brand is Solaray. It was under $10 for the bottle.

Some of us post journals if that helps, to see what other people eat. You are welcome to look at mine.
