For those of you who are wondering what the Carbohydrate Additcts Diet Lifespan Program (CALP) entails, here is an overview and a couple of links with more information.

First of all, 2 meals a day and any snacks need to consist of LC veggies and protein. This is called the CM or CS (Craving-reducing meal/craving-reducing snack) The list of allowed foods is a bit different than on Atkins.

One meal a day is the Reward Meal (the RM). This meal needs to last no more than one hour (60 minutes). It should start with a large salad. Then, you visually look at your plate and have 1/3 LC veggies, 1/3 carbs, 1/3 protein. You can eat as much as you want. If you want more carbs, you need to eat more LC veggies and protein. You are not counting carb grams. You can choose what the carbs are.

Here is a link to a "Cheat sheet" that can be printed and posted in the kitchen:

I hope this information helps.

This overview has been very helpful to me too! I have lost 4 pounds since starting this. It has been so much easier to follow and I feel full without the "I'm missing out on something feeling".
THANKS!!

Question for anyone on CALP
Just wondering...have you tried Atkins? Supposedly there are to be no cravings for sweets or other carbs. Do you have any kind of cravings on CALP? The plan sounds right up my alley but right now i am not craving pasta or any other of my addictions on Atkins. So it makes me a bit weary that I would go out of control. Thanks for your help

Some thoughts about cravings. This is from my personal experience.

First, using Equal (also known as aspartame, Nutrasweet) triggers strong sugar cravings for me. I don't use Equal anymore, the only time I get some is if I order a Diet Pepsi or a Diet Coke when we are out somewhere. I prefer water. I use Splenda as a sweetener. It does not trigger sugar cravings for me.

Second, eating Chinese food and forgetting to ask them to leave off the MSG triggered hunger cravings about an hour later. I had that happen 3 weeks ago. I ate at the same place Sunday and had no problems. (sans the MSG)

Third, eating too many carbs triggers hunger. If I have too many carbs during a RM, I wake up hungry. If I have too many carbs, during the day, (like when I was trying Somersizing and eating a lot of fruit followed by a big portion of cereal and FF milk 1/2 hour later, even if I ate not more carbs the rest of the day), I was hungry all the time. I could eat a large CM meal and be ravenous an hour later. Basically hungry all the time.

Once I went back to CALP, I got control over the extreme hunger I was experiencing.

One thing that helps me a lot is drinking a protein shake in the morning. I have the recipe in the Low-carb cooking forum. The only thing I have added to the recipe is a bit of dietary fiber supplement. I found one at Wal-Mart that is only .5g of carbs per teaspoon. It's expensive, but I don't use much at a time.

And, don't forget, you need protein and LC veggies at every meal and snack. It's important that the RM be balanced- I'd say it's ok to have more than 1/3 of LC veggies, but not ok to have more than 1/3 carbs.

Ilse, thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm going to make it a sticky.

I've been amazed that when I do this, I actually stay in ketosis! I'm going to read some of the links you provided, then I may have some more questions for you.

Blessings!

Hi there!

You've found an "Information Only" thread.

These threads are not checked frequently, since we didn't anticipate getting questions here. We just noticed that some people ARE posting questions, so we're closing the thread to new posts.

Your questions are important to us and we don't want any being overlooked!

So, if you have questions, visit the main forum area. Click Here to get there! Browse around the different forums and see if there's a discussion going on which addresses your question and jump on in!

But the BEST way to get responses that address your particular concern is to start your own thread.

If you'd like to start your own thread with a question or comment, just go to the forum of your choice. At the top left hand side, you'll see a button which says "New." When you click it, a menu will come down. Here, you choose "Topic."

A box will come up with two windows to fill in. The top one is where you give your thread a title. Like "What kind of scale to buy?" or "Need help calculating net carbs." The bottom window is where you post your question or comment.

Have a great day!

We look forward to your posts!

Maggie
