Hi all,

I love your encouraging and informative web site!
1st of all: sorry for my poor English, I am not very fluent in writing..
So: I come from Germany and feel like some kind of "low carb" alien. All our health institutes request a high carb diet for either illnes, wether it is heart desease or diabetes.

I do Atkins for exactly 2 weeks -imagine this- and informed myself about this diet mostly on your page and atkins.com.
It's crazy. I lost 8 pounds! (Most of it water, but using the test stick, I also burn lots of fat!
Children, adolescent and grown ups in Germany are FORBIDDEN to eat fat or lots of protein. Its political incorect. We are recommended to eat (when in a diet) on either side some hi-suggar sweet and low fat stuff.
This is why Diabetes rules this country, and it's children (a great percentage of them do have diabetes II)

Here we have no opportunity to buy some low carb food, cookies etc. Only LOW FAT!
It is horrible.
I am a diabetic myself and don't use any medications during my induction! It is great.
And it is wonderful to read your articles and posts for support. Let us show hyperinsulinism where it belongs: to the garbage!
Thanx for being with me

Fritz

Welcome, Fritz!!

Wie geht es ihnen? Your English is fine; certainly better than my mostly-forgotten, textbook German.

It's great that you are trying low carb; even with the problems that you have encountered. I know, I was raised by my German grandmother, and it was potatoes, potatoes, dumplings, and, just for good measure, spaetzle.

I have a question, though:

Are you doing this under your doctor's care and advice? I'm just asking, because that can be dangerous.

I wish you well, and keep posting!

Fritz,

It is possible to LC without a bunch of LC products. Just concentrate on real foods (not processed), like fresh meats, fish, poyltry, lots of LC vegetables, some nuts, and some fruit, like berries. You can do very nicely eating that way. You don't have to have LC bread, shakes, bars, pasta, etc. Don't put sugar in your food. If you are doing Atkins, you can use cream, cheeses, and many other things. Some people find cheese slows their weight loss.

Thank you all for your kindness

yes I am under medical controll - or better i used to be. But The german diabetes society e.g. recommends to eat LOTS of pasta, potatoes and bread. You are allowed to eat 10% fat and a minimum of protein. So i skiped the doctor and do my atkins and controll my blood sugar. AND: It's fine!! It is 90! (It used to be 280) And i will attend the doctor after living LC for a while and see his face, when LDL and tryglicerids (sp??) are better than ever.

Yes we do have over 400 really tasty sorts of bread here. Germany is the world champion in eating breads and bakery products!

(I only vistít the bakery café, drinking some coffee (I know, NO caffeine, but this i CAN'T du :-) )

In our supermarkest i found, that lots of german sausages etc. are made with SUGAR. Prominent TV chefs are roasting each vegetable WITH SUGAR. It is ridiculous.

Thank you and the Atkins folks for opening my eyes!!!

Fritz

PS I was prescribed a very strong antidepressivum i used to take together with Prozac.
Tell you what: i do not take it anymore and feel great! As Atkins wrote in his DANDR (uuu is this the right acronym??? I hope *g*)

PPS. I am a trained cook (but i use to earn my living by designing videogames) so - if you have any questions .... :-)
It is an advantage i submit, and i like using butter and cream!
