Shirl,

Are you on Atkins or CALP? ... or on Atkins and thinking of switching to CALP? By RW Meal I assume you are talking about the RMs on the CALP plan.

KefirLoverNow, RMs (Reward Meals) are part of the CAD and CALP plans. They are not part of Atkins. Basically with CAD and CALP you eat protein and LC veggies for 2 meals and your third meal is your RM. RMs are to be balanced (visually) with 1/3 protein, 1/3 LC veggies and 1/3 carbs, and are to last no more than 60 minutes.

I don't know anything about diabetes, so hopefully someone who does will chime in here. But, I think that maybe if you eat low-glycemic carbs at your RM you might be okay. Like I said, I don't know about that.

Hope this helps,

Debby

After reading the books, I felt that CAD/CALP would not give me what I was looking for - reasonable blood sugars with every meal. The Reward Meal concept didn't fit into what I was trying to do.

It's my opinion that a more Atkins-like or Zone-ish kind of plan works better for those of us with blood sugar issues who are seeking tighter control over our numbers.

Shirl,

This is just my HUMBLE opinion, but I do not think CAD/CALP is right for diabetics.
I am type II and I could not do it.
Not only did it keep knocking my blood glucose levels out of whack, but it kept my cravings intense. That was not fun.

With Atkins & Protein Power, I was able to get more (and faster) control of my levels and my cravings virtually disappeared. I was also able to cut my insulin level in half and avoid going on any oral meds.

If Atkins is too strict for you, perhaps you could check out the South Beach Diet. I believe it uses the glycemic index in choosing which carbs are more acceptable than others.
Also, do check out our *Diabetic's Forum* here on this site!
HTH,

Summer
