| I sure hope i don't become annoying here with all my questions!! I was just wondering how most of you eat your veggies-- I tend to eat most of mine raw, like in salads and such. I also wanted to check and make sure, but olive oil is okay for a dressing--right?? Also, have been trying to find some beef jerky without all the junk added and i think it is nearly impossible!! So, how many of you have a dehydrator and make your own? I've never done this before ( My mom used to use one many years ago when us kids were little) but have really considered buying one. P.S-- i may be in and out frequently, we are in the process of moving right now so we are coming and going ( sometimes i forget which one i'm doing!!) LOL Thanks again! kelly |

| Hi, Kelly, I think it's fine to eat lots of raw vegetables. Ray Audette recommends olive oil in Neanderthin, and I think most cave folks go along with that. I love my extra virgin olive oil both raw and in cooking. Other good fats to use are coconut oil, and animal fats saved from cooking, especially chicken and bacon. I use nitrate free bacon - it's a great paleo treat. I dusted off my old food dehydrator, and I'm really glad I did. I plan to start a new batch of jerky today. Check out the thread called Adventures in Jerky and Pemmican here in the caveman forum. I really love the pemmican too! I also use the dehydrator to make Crispy Nuts (recipe in "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fally Fallon and Mary Enig or the Weston A. Price Foundation). I'm going to experiment with drying some veggies too. If you have room in your kitchen and the price is right and all that, I think you should look into getting one. I love the jerky recipe in Sharron Long's book "Extreme Lo-Carb Cuisine." Sharron is a long-time lce member - it's very nice to chat with the author when you're using one of her recipes! For store-bought jerky, you can try Shelton's brand, found in health food stores. They have both turkey and beef varieties - the turkey seems easier to find. Ingredients much more acceptable than the mainstream brands. As to questions, ask away, it's great to have a new cave person around. Good luck with your move! Alice
