| Where is everybody this week? I can't believe that none of us started the thread yesterday. Hope everyone is well. Well... here's what's up with me... on Sunday (always report Sunday to Sunday) my weight was 156 which is down 1.5 pounds from prior Sunday, and my avg was up by 0.6 pounds. Not bad... was pretty happy with that. Now... here's the kicker... took a pregnancy test Sunday morning, and it showed positive. So... now I need to figure out how to eat... and I need to mentally switch gears from "losing" mode to pregnancy mode. Don't want to gain too much weight this time... hopefully only 30 pounds (or less). I'm already better off than last time. I was 175 when I got pregnant with DD and gained 40 pounds that pregnancy. Tried to "eat healthy", but ate too much junk. It's so easy to fall into the "but I'm pregant" mindset, even though we all know that junk isn't what's best for the growing baby. Anyway, this time I'm starting off 19 pounds lighter at 156. So, that's a good thing. Not sure how to change/adapt CALP for pregnancy. Anyone got any ideas? I will talk to my OB about it, but don't know how much support I'll get since I'm with Kaiser. Although, he had said it was okay to do CALP while TTC. Called their infoline yesterday for pregnancy nutrition and they recommend the food pyramid. Get this - here's their serving recommendation... 4 dairy, minimum 2 protien (can't believe it's that low!), 5 fruits/veggies, and 7 grains/breads (yikes!). I know that's probably not the best for me while pregnant. I'm going to post in the pregnancy forum here. But, most of those ladies were doing Atkins and can just go up to maintenance levels. I suppose I could switch to Atkins maintenance, but don't really want to count carbs... that's part of why I chose CALP. Right now, I'm just trying to stick to CALP, but add fruit at one CM and yogurt w/AllBran at another CM and maybe for a snack. (Although now I need to find something different than AllBran because even though I thought I read the label carefully at the store, I just noticed this morning that it has aspartame in it which I'm now definitely trying to avoid). I guess one of my biggest concerns is getting enough calcium, since the prenatal vitamins only contain 15% of the RDA and they (Kaiser docs) want me to get the rest from my diet. I think I did pretty well with my eating yesterday and got in a 35 min. brisk walk pushing DD in stroller. Went to bed hungry, but too tired to get up and get a snack. Woke up ravenously hungry this morning (which was weird because the past 2 days I haven't been that hungry in the morning). Well... now that I've written a book, I would like to ask you to pray for me for a safe and healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Also, any suggestions/thoughts on how to adapt CALP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Debby |

| Congratulations! This is what the Heller's say about it, Debby. http://www.carbohydrateaddicts.com/preg.html

| Thanks, Ilse! The Hellers aren't very helpful, are they? It's just hard because most doctors (especially with Kaiser) adhere to the food pyramid. Oh, well. Don't worry... I will be discussing this with my OB. |

| Debby, The "Fat Flush Plan" book has over a page of information on what to do about eating wisely when PG and breastfeeding. Maybe you could take a look at the book. It's in the FAQ part. I hope that helps.

| Congratulations Debby! I'm happy for you! I'm sure if you just increased the food intake at CM's you'd do just fine. Like you said, adding fruit and some high fiber cereal, in my opinion, would be just fine. I lost 2 pounds this week, saw a number on the scales I haven't seen in a long time, that made me happy. I'm really decreasing fat and sodium at CM's and I think that is helping a lot. My clothes are fitting looser It's been crazy here at work so I haven't spent a lot of time checking the board. It's going to get busier in a few weeks so I'll have to find the time to pop in. Good luck to you, keep in touch Karen |

| Thanks, Ilse! Maybe I'll try and check it out from the library today or tomorrow. DD's going to G&Gs house for a couple nights, so I might actually have some time to read. Karen, congrats on the 2 pounds... and the new number! Isn't that awesome! :jump: Thanks for your thoughts. I'll just have to see how things go. Never got morning sickness my first time around (crossing fingers). But, so far this time, it seems like I may need to eat more "smaller" meals/snacks. Will try to keep them CM friendly. I did join a Yahoo group for pregnant and nursing mothers who are doing low carb. Looks like they have people on a variety of plans. So far I'm still weighing myself every day. Don't know if I'll keep it up the whole time or not. It might be the only way to keep me in line... as long as I can adjust my mind to being okay with seeing the numbers go up. Have a good week everyone! Debby

| Congratulations, Debby! That is such wonderful news. I, too, think you should be okay continuing on CALP, just supplementing with things that won't trigger cravings and binges. Being aware and knowing how your body reacts is half the battle. Congratulations to you, too, Karen, on your loss for the week! I was down another pound this week, also seeing a number I haven't seen in a long time. My weekly average was down only .2, due to a mid-week splurge on lc ice cream. It was SO good, but I paid for it the next day! I too have been really busy this week, with some health issues thrown in for good measure. However, I still try to read the boards when I can, and will continue to post my weekly progress. Keep up the good work, everyone.
