Question Slim Fast Low Carb Plan

Has anyone tried this?

I have joined their web site and I am going to start the plan tomorrow. I worry about it being too many carbs. I am thinking I will substitute the higher carb items with a low carb version (like bread). I am not sure if this will work because of the calories.

I guess I want reassurance from someone who may have tried it .

Thanks!

Susan, what is in this plan? I can't figure out what it is from the website.

Maggie, I picked the lower carb plan and it is basically that you eat or drink their product 2 times a day and then eat dinner. I really do not like to use meal replacements, but I have been doing so badly I need something regimented that is easy to follow. This seems to be easy and very structured.

If you go to the meal plans, you can build your own menu. You can also decide how many meals you want to replace with the Slim Fast. The only thing is that for a low carb plan, it is high in carbs. I figured Monday's carbs, if I ate what they suggested, to be 188. That is high!

It should be easy to replace the HC foods with LC ones. For example, Monday morning's breakfast is a hard bolied egg, piece of wheat bread, 1 tbsp preserves, 4 oz. ff milk and 1 med. size banana. I would skip the preserves and the banana and use the LC bread and milk.

Like I said, I need to get back on a plan. My weight is going up and I feel terrible!!

I am going to give this a week and see if it helps motivate me!

I tend to keep LC shakes around in case of who knows what, and I tried the Slim Fast ones since they're so much less expensive than the Atkins. However, I find them to be so much less tasty than the Atkins, it's worth the extra cash to me for what IMHO is a significantly better tasting product. I believe the Atkins shakes have fewer calories though, so that might impact your plan to use different brands of meal replacement. It does sound like an awful lot of carbs, though (says the carbophobic).
LOL!

My only concern with any plan that doesn't involve actual food for all your meals and snacks is that one doesn't learn as much about the food choices one needs to make for the rest of one's life. Often one DOES get to goal but then is not sure how to maintain it.

But of course you should do whatever works best for you, Susan. I wish you the best of results!

Susan - how goes it? I do get the cinnamon bun meal bars. I really like them. Breakfast is on the go during the week for me. I think it is better than skipping it all together. My other meals are LC real food. On the weekends I usually don't eat the bars and stick with LC legal stuff. This week has been going well. Next week is vacation with hubby and I plan on staying on plan!

Hi Glo, I have found I can do really well doing the bar for breakfast and a shake or bar for lunch along with a LC meal. Like you, I eat "real" food for dinner. I have been able to drop 7 pounds of the high carb water gain this week.

I like to be able to just grab a bar and head out the door. It sure is a time saver. I am going to do the same thing this week. I have also loss the terrible cravings for sweets that I was having. I think the bars are enough to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I am trying to develop a plan I can live with. Hopefully, this will be it.

I will keep you psted!

I bought the low carb shakes a week ago and love them. Esp. the chocolate royale. I drink that for an easy breakfast...that's a weak time for me, as well as around 3:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon. the shakes fill me up really well and taste great. I don't go foraging for carbs when I drink the shakes.

For what it's worth, I think the Slimfast LC shakes provide pretty decent nutrition and do use them sometimes, but I wouldn't touch the bars with the proverbial 10-foot pole. Lots of sugar alcohols, hardly any fiber, made with hydrogenated oils...I think the shakes are almost always a better choice.

Best wishes,

Doc told me to read the label and if any form of sugar is listed in the first 3 to 5 ingredients, to avoid it. Ignore the listing of sugar under the Carb info. Read your ingredients.

Indeed, those bars are riding the outer edge of the not-properly-defined "low carb", with those hydrogenates and sugar alchols. The shakes ARE a better choice, but then any good quality L.C. shakes will be a good choice, so if you leave off the SlimFast bars, you're not left with much of a "plan".

Keep in mind that SlimFast, last year, was (a) dead set against low carb and said as much in their advertising and on their website, and then (b) lost 17 million bucks in sales (first loss ever) which was attributed to the growing low carb movement and the Atkins Nutritionals corporation's success.

Hmmm, then SlimFast comes up with a quickly formulated (with cheap hydrogenates and sugar alcohols and pretty low protein) 'low carb' line and started marketing the heck out of it, still slamming those 'extreme' (but we know at least better ingredients) other low carb competitors and plans. yeah, right.

Those bars are candy, and not healthy candy at that.

Hello everyone, I really enjoy reading all the messages, its wonderfull to know there are others who are in need of advice and support,I am new to this group and live in Australia, my weight has gone up to 298 lbs, and I feel so miserable, my son is getting married in 12 months time, and my one dream is to be slim in the wedding photos,I spoke to my Doctor about the Atkins program, and he was against going as low as 20 grams of carb in the first 2 weeks,I felt a bit disappointed as I have read the book, and I need to go to that to get to Ketosis,However he did say it was ok to go low carb as long as I dont go below 60 grams a day, will I lose on that amount?? I had thought of going to 40 grams and not tell him,I am type2 Diabetic, and it seems that this way of eating will be good for me in that area also, I am 60 yrs of age , please will you give me your opinions, and also an idea of what a normal low carb day of eating looks like .....thank you all, and I look forward to hearing from you soon....Maureen24

Hey Susan, It's good to see you around again. I'm sorry that you have had such a hard time weight wise. Do you still have Gkids to get up and off to school at the same time you are trying to get there? That is definitely some morning stress. In my opinion, stress is one of the biggest problems in controling weight. Good luck with your new plan. Be sure to eat your veggies when you eat your meals.
