She is wondering what they can have for snacks other than meat and cheese. ***************************************** Replies: Topic author: ConCon Replied on: 19 Feb 2003 8:38:35 PM Message: There are some recipes in the Zone site for snacks; I use em. Snack ideas...1 cup strawberries, 1oz low fat cheese and 3 almonds 1/2 apple 1oz string cheese and 7 peanuts 4 crackers, 1/2 oz jerky and 1 tbsp lite sour cream 1/4 bagel, 1 1/2 oz lox and 1/2 tbsp avacado 1/2 cup blackberries, 1/2cup yogurt and 1 macadamia nut. Just be sure to add the protein to the snacks...thats the tough part to figure out! HTH ******************************************** Topic author: BC Replied on: 19 Feb 2003 10:28:22 PM Message: Granny, Connie's ideas sound great. Here's a list from the web site so you can create your own snacks: Create Your Own You can create your own snack by choosing one item from each food category below. Each item represents one mini-block. Remember, to be a ZONE snack, you need one mini-block of protein with one mini-block of carbohydrate with one mini-block of fat. You can also use this list to make substitutions for items on the snack list that are not to your liking. PROTEINS: 1/4 cup cottage cheese - 2% 1 oz. mozzarella cheese - part skim or "lite"only 2 1/2 oz. ricotta cheese-part skim or "lite' only 11/2 oz. sliced deli meats (Turkey, Ham, etc.) 1 oz. Tuna, in water (add two mini-blocks fat) 1 oz. Cheese - part skim or "lite" brand (Do not add a fat block unless 0 grams of fat are listed on label) CARBOHYDRATES: 1/2 apple 1/2 cup grapes 3 apricots 2/3 cup cubed honeydew 3/4 cup cubed cantaloupe melon I kiwi fruit 8 cherries 3/4 cup cubed watermelon 1/2 nectarine 1 tangerine 1 peach 1/3 cup fruit cocktail 1 plum 1/2 pear 1/2 cup peaches 1 cup strawberries 1/2 cup crushed pineapple 3/4 cup blackberries 1 cup raspberries 1/4 cantaloupe 1/2 cup blueberries 1/2 orange 1/2 grapefruit FATS: 3 green olives 1 macadamia nut 1/4 in. slice of avocado 3 hazelnuts 1 lg black olive 3 almonds 6 peanuts 2 pecan halves HTH, brenda ********************************************** Topic author: granny Replied on: 20 Feb 2003 05:14:52 AM Message: Thanks ladies...I think I haven't really found my way around the Zone site well enough...She is trying to have the whole family eat this way as I understand it. Her husband was told he has low blood sugar, and I am guessing he gets more good than this...or not? So all snacks are made of one block of each group listed, or could you have more if not trying to lose weight? ********************************************* Topic author: BC Replied on: 20 Feb 2003 10:21:46 AM Message: granny, well, folks can eat whatever they want, but the "book" way to do it is to figure out how many blocks total you need in a day, then divide that total number of blocks into meals and snacks. This is whether you want to lose weight or not, because the number of blocks calculated is based on your lean body mass and activity level, not on how much or whether you need to lose. 172/108/108 Zone since 4/98 |
