Hi Alice,

I have really missed you, what's been happening to you....I only just saw this post so sorry for the delay.

I am re-reading Schwarzbein and I am so interested because she says much the same thing as the alternative therapist that I saw but without the food restrictions.....so I am starting again tomorrow.

All week I have gradually been cutting my tablets out....there don't seem to be any side effects apart from not being drugged to the eyeballs all the time, LOL. Of course the pain in my back is much worse but I am trying to stay with paracetamol instead of the stronger drugs.

I have also gradually been cutting down on my carbs this week......not totally, but enough so that it won't be such a big shock to my system tomorrow, ha-ha.

It is much like Paleo but I will be allowed some bread and potato which I think is a much better and safer option for me, because I find it so hard to go totally without these two things, so wish me luck, I will be in most days to read the posts. I am posting on Lower Carb discussions as well.

Take care,
love Louloo. x

Hi, Louloo,

I've really missed you too. Our computer developed a very serious problem that took a long time to fix. In fact, it did sort of get fixed in the first couple of weeks - we could do most things, but not post on lce. Then it broke again! That took longer to fix and meanwhile lots of life happened.

We took a long weekend trip to Michigan for a visit with my parents. They're up in their 80's, and my dad is having memory problems, so it was a bittersweet time. (Going back again in August.) Then my dh had some surgery and I was taking care of him at home and sort of preoccupied with that. (He's fine - and at this time almost completely recovered. Everything resolved fine, thank goodness.)

Meanwhile the computer was working again, but the cookies not set right for lce. I'm a computer dunce, but I didn't want to be nagging dh about it when he was coping with surgery issues. So, finally he fixed it so I can post again.

It was a little intimidating to come back on - I felt shy. Now that I've started, it feels soooo good to be typing to y'all again.

I too am fascinated by Schwarzbein. I have her first book, but not the second. Our library doesn't have it so I think the next time I indulge in book buying I will get it.

One of the things I think she says is that if carb level is too low it causes adrenal stress which results in weight stall or even gain. Something like that - what do you think?

I have definitely started menopause. Went from early March to late June between TOMs. Starting in late April lots of hot flashes - especially at night, making it hard to sleep. I've been using some alternative/herbal approaches from Susun Weed's book "New Menopausal Years the Wise Woman Way." It's helped me to sleep better.

As far as how I'm eating, I had a bit of a flirtation with cheese and cream, but decided to eat them only occasionally as treats. I have no desire to eat bread or potatoes, so I'm pretty much back to paleo.

It is so interesting to read about you and Angel combining Schwarzbein with paleo. Before the computer bugged out I was thinking about that very thing, and had started looking into the lower carb forum. I think I may join you there (not this evening - I need to share computer time) and see what I can see. I would raise my carb level with more fruit and root vegetables. Not potatoes - I can't imagine why I ever ate those things.

I'm not sure what my carb level is now. I will have to get energetic and log into fitday again and find out. I have a new program to eat nine different veggies/fruits every day. I make it most days. I really like eating this way.

Well, that's all for now. I'll be checking in most every day too, so we can chat some more. I hope this Schwarzbein/paleo thing does the trick for you.

Hugs, from your paleo pal,

Alice

Hi Alice,

I am sorry that you have had all these problems but I am glad that your DH is on the mend. It won't be long before my DH is looking after me, ha-ha. Hopefully I will have my operation sometime in September.

You are so lucky that you have no desire to eat bread or potatoes, they are what I really want to eat, but I am managing at the moment just by using bread that only has 9 carbs, so I can have a piece of this plastered in butter for breakfast and it satisfies me.

I am going to put all my food into fit day and see what it comes up like. I am mostly eating veggies, fruit, meat and eggs, some cheese, raspberries and strawberries and a few nuts. If I follow some of the meal plans in SP then I can have potatoes as I said before.

As I have so many health problems I might put on some weight while I am trying to heal myself, but I am expecting this, so as long as I know that I have been following the plan, I won't worry about it so much.

In Sp1 she tells us to eat 15 grams of carbs at each meal with a snack if you need it, so this is going to give me a lot more carbs than I was previously eating......that should cover the bread angle. I can't find any mention of deducting the fibre though, so if anyone is reading this and has noticed reference to it, will you please let me know...thanks in advance. When I say the bread was 9 grams of carbs, that was taking the fibre out of the total.

You are doing well to be able to eat 9 different fruits and veggies a day, although I don't suppose I am much behind you on this. I am not eating as much fruit as yet because I have only started this today....I will have to check the GI index again and only buy the lower carb ones.

I can't believe that you were worried about posting again. Look at me and how many times I have stopped and started, changed my plan or stopped altogether, everyone is so forgiving here and welcoming, that's why I keep coming back. You were missed and it is lovely having you back.

Take care,
love Louloo. x
