Just wanted to check in and let you know things are going great for me in the Zone, or at least my modified version of it. I am still eating considerably more overall than Dr. Sears recommends, but I feel terrific and my weight is stable or down a couple pounds. I can REALLY tell when I am in the Zone and when I'm not, in terms of energy and mental focus. It seems I didn't know I wasn't feeling my best till I started feeling better - kinda like how you don't think your ring in dirty till you get it cleaned!

Today's lunch plate was a thing of beauty....kippered herring, cottage cheese with strawberries & blueberries, and snow peas with a smattering of slivered almonds. Came in right at 500 calories, with roughly 20 grams of fat (35%), 30 carbs (25%), and 50 protein (45%), which is just what I'm aiming for at this point. I've also been taking the higher dosage of fish oil for about 3 weeks now, and plan to continue that for about 3 months before tapering down a bit. I can't really claim any demonstrable benefit from the fish oil, but then I didn't expect to...I just assume it's doing good works in my system.

Anyway, I'm planning on a big Porterhouse on the grill for dinner tonight, so in order to stay in the Zone I have no choice but to have mushrooms and onions with the steak, along with a huge mixed salad and maybe some asparagus and zucchini and some more berries. Gee, this "dieting" is tough, isn't it?

Sky, I'm glad you checked in; I've been thinking about you! It really sounds like you've found a good balance for yourself--that's fantastic (and the eatin' is rather good, too, isn't it, LOL!) I do know what you mean about not knowing you weren't feeling your best--it's surprising what we can get used to, and/or assume is "normal."

What I notice with/without fish oil is generally a difference in nail growth/strength, so like you, I assume it's doing it's job........although I will tell you I recently found out that I needed to somewhat reduce the amount of omega3 I was getting, and add more GLA in the form of Evening Primrose Oil. However, this is because of a genetic issue that the majority of people won't have. Interesting though, isn't it. Everyone has their own balance of everything...

Keep us posted, ok????

Thanks for the responses, Sharron & BC....

BC, funny you should mention evening primrose oil ~ I have been taking 500mg/day religiously for about a year now, and it's one supplement I KNOW has had an effect and a dramatic one, regulating my heart rhythym when all kinds of prescription drugs could not.

As for nail growth, I just got acrylics for the first time in my life, so I guess I will have to sit here and wait for luxurious hair instead.

I use cod liver oil -- we have clouds 85 % of the time here... I also take evening primrose. It really helps with female issues. Specifically, I was having hair loss, but it also helps regulate my cycle! Also, my doc says it is best when they are taken together anyway.

I can't tolerate a super dose of the fish oil any more, though I did do it for a while without even realizing it. I take about 1/2 T a day now, maybe just a smidge less...

I thought y'all might be interested in this article I bumped into. They are talking about wakefulness and a specific remedy is a Zone snack before bed
