    Default LC-Friendly Veggie Options

Hey guys-- I have read about all of you getting sick of cheese omelets everyday. I have tried many vegetarian "meats" like salami or turkey slices. The Yves products are very good (I am not sure if they are available in the US) but they contain evaporated cane juice. Is this okay for an Atkins follower like me? Each slice is about one carb and I love making "meat" and cheese roll-ups for lunch or a snack. I am worried about consuming a sugar product. Has anyone found any good vegetarian LOW CARB/no sugar meat substitutes? I am worried about protein, but don't want to each all that cheese! Thanks guys!

Hi Peanut! I really like some the Boca products, especially the "sausage patties" for breakfast. They are found in the frozen food section of the grocery store here in the US, and also have about 1 carb each. (I don't have a package here right now, so I don't know if it's a sugar carb.) Even though I'm not a vegetarian, I enjoy them as a lower fat meat substitute.

As a vegetarian, you'll have to make a few concessions in LCing, as you already know, in order to get enough protein. I would say that as long as you are accounting for the carbs in the Yves products (yes, I've seen them here ), are losing well, and feeling good, you are doing ok!

I have eaten the yves turkey slices before without problems. The carb amounts in the slices are small and I think as long as they are small I wouldn't worry about it too much.

The ones that are a good substitute is quorn (which is also a non soy protein sources btw). They make 'chicken' cutlets and a roast which can be sliced thinly and is great with cheese or cream cheese spread on.

I also enjoy the morningstar products, and like the taste more than the boca ones personally. I don't think that they have any sugar in them.

Morning Star Farms makes a lot of great products, but sadly my favorites in the past were the breaded kind. I've tried the tofurkey thing too, but realized that I could never be a vegetarian afterwards, laugh.
