Tonight I'm making Buffalo wings with raw veggie dippers (cukes, celery, cauliflower). Can't tell you how much of each I'll eat, but I'll play it by ear. I may also need some extra protein, since DH usually hoover's more than his fair share of the wings I've got a couple of kiwi' to use up, and I'll have a slice or two of those, too.

I do keep canned beans on hand and have been known to toss a few in almost anything! I like the black soybeans, red kidney beans, garbanzos, black-eyed peas, pintos, and crowders (on the rare occasions they are available here). Of course, I grew up on pinto beans and cornbread as a meal, and I can still get pretty sentimental about that!

Crowders? I thought those were the folks that head to the mall on Friday night???

Well, I did really well yesterday. I was totally in the Zone until situations beyond my control (absolutely no protein in the house we were at and I'd eaten my snack!) caused me to go completely out of the Zone -- so badly so that I'm doing induction for a few days to recover from it :o

I've learned though, that a good portion of meat (about 5 ounces cooked), a low gi veggie and either a higher gi veggie or a small piece of fruit with some fat somewhere in the meal is ideal for me. I feel terrific when I do that! I'll be doing some form of the Zone for maintenance for sure, and hopefully OWL...

I'll be back, after I get my system cleaned out. Thanks again for all the help and hand holding!

Oh, and when's dinner? I love wings

LOL, crowders are a Southern thing, I guess!

You missed some great wings, if I do say so myself:cook:

Tonight I'm making a skillet thing with ground beef, dreamfield pasta, low carb and spaghetti sauce, and a veggie of some sort on the side--oh and a freshly sliced cuke right from the deck garden

Aw....

Now you're making me hungry

I'm doing fine on my re-induction, so far. I've dropped 3 pounds and a number of inches of bloat.

A fresh cucumber!?

Sharron, deck (or container) gardening is incredibly easy, and more fun that you can imagine. It would be a great summer learning project for your kids next year.

Congrats on your pounds and inches!

I'm highly successful with my herbs, but failed miserably at trying to grow veggies. Any tips would be welcomed

Lori (PAMOMATHOME) introduced me to Earthboxes. www.earthbox.com

Gardener's Supply makes some, too--the ones I ended up buying

www.gardenerssupply.com

It's really just a matter of getting the right containers for the job (they have a huge water reservoir) and following the directions. In my climate I buy tomato, pepper and cukes already started rather than seeds, but I use seeds for mesclun lettuces, peas, swiss chard. DH even has a horseradish plant. A box will hold two big tomato plants and if I plant two boxes of tomatoes I'm giving them away! Really, think about it for next year, and Lori and I will help ya.

Bummer, I couldn't get the gardenerssupply link to open :(

Hmmmmmm

I wonder if our local feed store has anything like this? I don't enjoy gardening, except for the stuff I have in pots. This is something I should look more into!

Oh, and I finally tried Ak Maks! They are quite good for a lower carb cracker -- definitely tastier than Rye Crisp -- and were quite useful at holding up the couple of bites of seafood salad I had at our picnic yesterday

Ack! Try www.gardeners.com Serves me right for relying on my memory.

And Ak Mak, too, LOL! Glad you like them.

I tried, but couldn't find anything locally here that had a comparable amount of self-watering capacity, and that's really a key to success IMO. However, many people do container garden with "whatever" containers.....

No worries

http://www.gardeners.com/Shopping/se...&RecGroupNum=1 is that the critter?

Well, I've tried "whatever" and "whatever" only works with herbs and flowers for me!

These are them, LOL, if you get my drift.......

http://www.gardeners.com/Shopping/se...733&CMP=IL8895

Lori really likes her earthboxes, too--same idea, although I think hers are a little better quality.

Yeah, I'm not a "whatever" person, either--no magic hands or green thumb here!!

I've had a couple of good Zone meals the past few days. I'm kind of morphing Atkins and the Zone, btw.

I had a lunch of a huge salad with cukes, mushrooms, refried beans (from scratch, small red beans), beef, salsa and sour cream.

I had a good breakfast of 2 sausages, 1 egg, cauliflower and about 2 T of those refried beans.

Unfortunately, I'm out of those refried beans! :fork:

Any interesting ways to use small amounts of beans? I bought black beans and lentils the other day while I was shopping. I did smoke those ham hocks btw
