I've been known to throw a few beans at almost anything, Sharron--on top of a chef salad, in soup, in chili, in with a mixed veggie, in a baked "pasta" dish. And don't forget bean salad, bean/egg salad sammiches.

If I make a beef taco supper, I add a can of beans to the seasoned ground beef mix after its browned and take the stick blender to the whole skillet for a few seconds until it's less chunky with only a few whole beans left. The juice in the can of beans seems to help thicken the mixture and it's really good.

Speaking of good, bet ham hocks were fantastic......

Haven't used 'em yet -- gonna put them in the lentils

I love beans, but they've always been the star of the show. I need to make them a side player...

bean/egg salad? do tell...? baked "pasta" dish??

I do refried beans with gr. beef. In fact, a recipe is forthcoming in the new book :cook:

Aw, nothing elegant here...you know like egg salad but with some beans (bean chunks, lol) in it, too. Garbanzas have nice texture for this.

And if I make a pasta dish, either with veggie noodles or lc pasta, I've been known to throw in a few beans (chunks again, usually not mashed or whole) into the sauce. Depends on what I have around, and what I think I can get away with without it looking or tasting ridiculous. But I have actually layered red kidney beans in a lasagna-like bake. Never tried it on company, though

I don't think I would have thought of putting eggs with beans. I do egg/tuna on ocassion...

I'll have to percolate on this. I'm finding that I can tolerate more carbs and stay in ketosis (for losing) than I previously thought. Using my Zone principles to do it!

Like, I've figured out I can tolerate a glass of raw milk with 1 or 2 meals a day and the beans.

Oh, I did taste the hocks. Yes, they were yummy :cook:

I'm wondering: I used to use bean flours when I tried LC -- that was even before the Zone -- I wonder if I could incorporate them into things now???

Good question about the bean flours! I've nada experience with them. But sounds like something fun to play with!

Hmmm...

I don't do well with garbanzo beans -- in fact, I dislike them so much I used them as a fake "swear" word! Instead of "oh bummer" or the like, I'd say, "Garbanzo beans!"

Anyway! I remember garbanzo bean flour, but I wonder if there are other ones available. I'll have to poke around at my hfs next time I go into town

LOL! The innocent chick-pea! Gosh, I guess I'm having a hard time imaging having that kind of dislike--although I must admit I have some weirdnesses about some foods, myself. Actually garbanzos rank really well among beans on the GL scale, too.......sorry!!!

There are VERY few foods I feel that way about: Bell peppers, eggplant, cactus, Mexican menudo and garbanzo beans. As a general rule, I'll eat almost anything -- at least once anyway

Seriously, though, if it means anything, according to Dr. Mercola, garbanzos are one of those foods I should avoid. They actually taste bitter to me, isn't that funny? Oh, and limas should be on that list too

Oh! and btw, did you know BK has also introduced a chili on their value menu? The serving is very generous and meaty. Ds had it yesterday for lunch. Next time we go in, I'll try it and a salad :fork:

Interest about the garbanzo's. Bitter? Wow..... Now lima beans, I understand, although I do like the great big tan butterbean version. Something else hard to find "up here" though

Ya know, I haven't been to BK in about a century. Thanks for the heads up; it'll be a nice change.

Well, the only bean flour I found at the hfs was garbanzo. Blech.

I did find some instant refried beans and instant black beans. I got the black beans. We'll see what I think when I mix 'em up...

Bren, with the major stress on my adrenals for at least the next few days I'm going to do my Zonish plan to try to restablize my system.

I hope breakfast works: 1 WW toast, 2 eggs chz omelette and some broc salad...
