Unhappy Need some support

I am a newbie and hopefully this won't be my last visit here. I have done the Atkins thing and lost approx 14lbs. However, I gained that back plus a few extra when I started eating like I use to. I know that it works but I can't seem to get back into it. Each day I say - I'll start tomorrow. Well, tomorrow never comes. I need some help!

PrissyChrissy...

I am in the same boat with you, only I lost 33 pounds and have now gained 30 back. PLEASE don't give up. I do the same thing EVERYDAY! But, today was different. I have made up my mind and rejoined this site, I have made and excel worksheet which includes my weight, my measurements, everything I eat, water consumption, etc....

If I can do it, you can do it. I have had a great day so far today. And after all, doesn't the old saying go, "Take it a day at a time." Heck, if you need to, do it an hour at a time to start with! Good luck and keep coming here. These are great people who really want to help. Be strong...you can do it!

We all have those moments where we fall off one way or another. I have experienced them many times but have come crawling back...the eye opener for me was when the dh and I went on our vacation - and I ate the same way I did before I started this woe. Within two weeks, I had gained 13 lbs back of the 64 lbs I had lost...and that's when I realized if I kept doing that, I would end up being the weight I was before this woe...so I recommitted myself and became even more committed to this way of eating...yes, I've stil had my moments and have fallen due to having bad weeks or worrying too much or being stressed over minor things, but when I have gone off plan, I start back immediately. I don't wait till tomorrow because then tomorrow becomes another tomorrow and then another tomorrow and then another tomorrow...and thus, nothing ever happens. Nothing ever gets done. Tomorrow just never comes. Period.

So I encourage you to start today...don't wait till tomorrow. It's like my pastor always had told me, 'If you say you're going to say you're going to write a book, but you'll start tomorrow, then you're not serious about it. If you were serious about it, you'll start today - even if it means just writing one little sentence, even one word." I take into account those words and use them for this woe. If I go off plan, I remember his words and start back on plan at the next meal. I don't use it as a rationale to go off plan for the whole day - like I've done before. (oh, I already ate that sugar-coated candy bar so since I already screwed up, I mightest well screw up the rest of the day, too) If I do, then I know I'm not as serious as I should be about this lifetime committment.

So, I encourage once again to get started now! You will feel so much better, and the rewards are so immeasurable on this woe! I wish you the best of luck in your success, and here is a GREAT place where you can come for needed support. The people here are wonderful and have always helped me to see things in another light.

Chrissty,
I know your struggle well! We just need to say this is it and do it! I lost and maintained about 2 years with planned/controlled/1 meal only cheats. The problem came when I kept saying tomorrrow, tomorrow! Or since I had this I might as well have that! I know full well I will have 1 higher carb meal cooked special by my Mom tomorrow. However it will be 1 meal and not an all day binge. Thats what got me back over 160 again. Control and planning had me in cute size 6.
Come on girl! We can do this!
Amy S, welcome back to lc!
We should start a back on the wagon challenge!

PC - You just need to start and the diet takes care of the rest. Just tell yourself that if you last 3 days it gets easier. In fact I find that by the beginning of the third day I lose my hunger. Keep telling yourself "I CAN DO THIS!!!!!"

Chrissty, I too lost and gained. 60 lbs lost, 51 lbs found. I only know that we can never give up. We are fighting for our lives. I have been back on for 5 days now and the longer I last, the more controll I seem to have. For me, the first 3 days are the hardest. Good luck!!!!!

Ditto to what everyone said. Take it one meal at a time. You have to do it that way anyway, so make the right choices. Whether we feel like we are in control or not, we DO control what goes into our mouths.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step....
My best to you!

hey chrissy-hon, most of us have been where you are or at least somewhere in the neighborhood, y'kno? thing is, you CAN do this. look around you at all the tons of different people who are doing well with this. YOU can TOO.

one day, one hour, one mintue at a time. that's all you take. every day is easier than the last. you find your groove and you feel like you're feet are on solid ground again...

here are some things i wrote for myself to keep my spirits up...

Thank you everyone for your support. Great advise - one day at a time or maybe one hour at a time. I did it before I can do it again - right? It's so depressing not being able to get into some of my clothes anymore. And a bathing suit - forget it. This is the first time in my life that I am REALLY embarrassed to wear a 2 piece suit. Hubbie wants to be supportive but it's hard for him. He won't do the low carb thing. Gotta be strong on my own. Thanks again!

Don't tell dear hubby that you are switching him to Low Carb--just do it--if you are the cook either he eats it or he goes hungry--my guess is he'll eat it! Mine has lost about 25 lbs--and he needed to because I over aobut a month stopped making high carb meals--no more macaronia nd cheese, no more stuffed baked potatos, no more pasta. . .no more breads, no donuts, no cakes. . .and guess what--HE LIVED WITHOUT THEM!!! My daughter has lived without them too--she occasionally buys one donut for a treat at the store or one can of regular soda from a pop machine, but it isn't in my house anymore. He does now wililngly take a salad with meat every day for lunch, he does eat veggies at every meal, he chooses fruit over other snacks--they aren't in the house so he would have to go get them from a store somewhere--I don't have the temptation anymroe either! IF it isn't in the house I can't eat it!

Try to look at this as your new lifestyle and not just a diet. You already know it works. Take it one day at a time. Decide what you are going to eat all day tomarrow, write it down and it will be easier to stick with it. Once you get through one day the rest will come a bit easier.
