Default I got rid of the scale!

I have been doing Atkins for 3 weeks now, and as of Monday I had lost 11 pounds. Funny thing, I weighed myself yesterday and I had gained 3 pounds back! I have not cheated once, and this morning the 3 pounds were still there. I read the article about the scale being a cheat and a liar, so last night I took my measurements and this morning I took the scale and put it up on the top shelf of my closet. That way I won't be tempted to weight myself every day. I am only going to weigh in once a week from now on. Or maybe once a month. I am trying to wean myself off of it..LOL. Also I am still on induction after 3 weeks. I have been afraid to go over 20 carbs. I realize this might be holding up my weight loss. So today I am going to eat 5 more carbs and continue on this way for the next week. Hopefully this will work! OH yeah....going to drink more water too. I might be in the bathroom for the next week though! One bad side effect of the water....I go every 20 minutes or more! OH well....gotta get this weight off. Anyway, thanks for listening...just thought I'd share my plan with everyone!

Thumbs up Re: I got rid of the scale!

Yay Kellie!

What a great attitude you have! You will go far with this woe if you keep it up.
The scale is indeed a cheat and a liar. But so are our bodies.
It is nigh impossible that you have *regained* 3 pounds of fat. More likely, you are retaining fluid for whatever reason. Down South, where I live, we have had heat indices in the 110's recently. In this heat, drinking adequate water becomes even more crucial.
I hear you on the water thing, but remember, your body WILL eventually adjust, so don't short yourself on water. I predict that if you get your water intake up, and get off induction, you'll be seeing more progress soon.
Best of luck!

Good idea, actually! Daily fluctuations can be a miserable experience. Been there, done that...I use to weigh myself every morning...and if the scale showed I dropped 2 lbs, well, that day, I would not be as strict in my woe...
and because of that, the scale would usually show a 3 lb weight gain the following day! So I've disciplined myself to weighing only once a week. Yeah. It's difficult...but I can do it...and I've done it...I know I'll be more discipined in my woe if I only get on one time a week, too...

Also, I just started weight training, and of course, that puts muscle on the body...so I might possibly show a weight gain when I get on the scale this week, but you know what? I'm not worried about it...my clothes are looser on me, I can get jeans over my hips that before, I had to struggle to get them on...so yeah...the scale is a cheat and a liar! Listen to your measurements and pay more attention to those than that dang scale! Make your measurements your progress! I finally started doing that...

And also, when it comes to this woe, you will lose inches before the scale reads anything...that's what happens with me often...there might be a week where nothing is moving on the scale...and then the next week, I'll be doing the same exact things & eating the same exact things as the previous week, and I'll be down 4 lbs...without changing anything.

Well, good luck on your success and on the discipline with the scale!

WHAT THEY SAID!!

Mine scale too does not show that I've "lost" lately. HOWEVER, I've have to go shopping this weekend as some items have become far to lose to wear. (I am far too old to be wearing baggy jeans!)

Weight on a scale can differ as much as 3 pounds in one day. Salt, water and fiber intake account for a lot of that.

Also consider the weather, your body will naturally retain water during the summer months.

Dump the scale and you'll really be glad you did!!

Smile Re: I got rid of the scale!

I am not a big fan of scales.

Even before I started this WOE, where I worked there was a scale in the ladies room and I just had to get on there every time I walked in that bathroom. (I was trying to lose weight simply by walking alot at the time, it worked a bit, but I only lost 10 lbs in a whole year. Since I left that job I gained it all back - in 3 months - so that's why I'm trying low carb). One time I weighed myself before I, er, tee-teed, and then again after. There was nearly 3 lbs difference. Not to mention a week or so before TOM: 5 lbs heavier every single time.

IMHO, scales used on a daily basis are a big ole downer.

I've weighed myself once since I left that job (148 now, 138 then) at a grocery store. I haven't weighed myself since and have been on induction for about 16-17 days now. Also just started TOM, felt all bloated and I went right out of ketosis the first day big red came to visit. (Was in ketosis for two weeks straight up til then)

After reading up a bit more, I have decided that keto sticks and scales are not going to be my best friend and will cause me more grief than cheer.

Stay focused on the carb count, IMHO (newbie is me, granted)

There's a funny poem about the keto sticks at:

http://members.fortunecity.com/bosto...kitty/id5.html

(scroll down to the orange ketosis section)

Sorry, I still can't get my cut/paste to work on this forum (using Mozilla)

Also there is some advice in the green "keeping score" section about weighing yourself.

(I have no idea whose website that is nor am I affiliated, but it all made alot of sense to me)

STICK with it! If I can go without microbrewed hefty malty brown beers, chips and fries for 3 weeks, (see my avatar), I can go for 3 months. Or six.

And if I lose some weight in 3 months or so, I'll have a beer once in a while (not that low carb crap, but a good microbrew or two) and good fries once in a while too.

I will, OTOH, stay away from white bread, rice, pasta and sugar for the rest of my life. I quit smoking 7 years ago cold turkey.

If I can do that, I can do this.

Oh, wait, this was YOUR pep talk! sorry!!

Keep up the good work!

I've had Mozilla pretty much since they were just a disorganized bunch of nerds and I have never had a problem cutting and pasting from one tab to another. What release version are you using?

Oh heck ya! Scales are re-dink-culous..... They are a huge huuuuge downer sometimes. Especially when you weigh yourself every day. Since I started doing this WOE I weighed myself every day hoping to see a change...not good. I decided that the scale really isn't what I was striving to see a change in..it was my CLOTHES, the way I look and ESPECIALLY the way I felt about myself... So I only step on the stupid thing once a month. If I am up a pound or two...so be it, OH WELL... maybe I am retaining water, but as long as my CLOTHES still fit well and are loose I am happy...However, if I am down a few pounds like last week... I have a party! Hehe.

Frequent usage of scales contribute to obsessive behaviour which is not a good thing. Obsessive behaviour about food is what got most of us in this overweight category in the first place whether we were consciously aware of it or not. DITCH THE SCALE!

Then have a party when your jeans get loose! WOOHOO!

Krystyne

I forgot, I actually have Netscape 7.1 installed now because by credit card online access wouldn't work with Mozilla.

Weird thing is, I just tried cutting and pasting several times in this reply and it worked just fine!?

Before, even though I have Netscape, I kept getting a Mozilla error message - Oh well, seems to be OK now---Thanks!
