Smile Any ideas about grams vs exercise?

Hello!
I have been doing atkins for 16 weeks and sucessfully have lost 39 pounds. I am at 215 and my goal is to be 165. That sounds heavy to many of you as I am only 5'1 ! I lost about 100 pounds 4 years ago on Weight Watchers, it took 2 years to get it off. I hit 163 and was wearing a size 8 /meduim in most things. It seems that I weight in very heavy but no one would know it! Lucky me!

I am going to the gym daily ( once in a while I will give myself a day off) but I do mostly cardo for about 45 minutes a day. I do throw in some weights now and then to tone up.

I untill last week I was on induction and I am just inching into the phase 2 of atkins. My problem is I have stalled out in the number game of the scale for the last month. I have dropped from a size 22 to a size 18/16 , so I have been able to ignore the numbers on the scale not changing as long as my clothing size has been changing!

Really for motivation, I would like to see the pounds continue to drop. Anyone have any ideas about the amount of exercise that I do and the 20 grams a day of the carbs? Should I start to increase the carbs and do ya think I will see the numbers drop?
Thanks for your help!

Lucie

I'd definitelty say up the carbs. You'll use them up quickly with the almost daily workouts. Exercise stalls many people for a time but eventually the scale will start moving again.

Yes by all means up those carbs.... I had a similar problem last january, going to the gym almost every day(6 days a week) swimming three days, and water aerobics three days.... and was told by the Lc trainers that I should be eating closer to 100 carbs a day, but I am sticking to 40 to 60 per day. Some days I don't get to 60 some days I am right at it.... you need more carbs to fuel those workouts.
keep up the great work

Hi Lucie! Welcome!!

Congrats on your weightloss so far!!! That's fantasic! (We actually have similar goals, but I'm 7" taller than you!)

One suggestion I'd make, other than upping your carbs (do so mostly by adding veges or low-glycemic berries) is to take your measurements! That will help with motivation when the scale isn't moving. If you haven't done this, take 'em now so you have a baseline, then can compare as the weeks go by.

My guess is that you're losing inches and building muscle now. With your great weight loss, your body is probably just "catching up" and readjusting. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll continue to see results. Don't forget that muscle weighs more than fat, but takes up less room. Also, don't forget that other people see your size, not what your actual weight is. So the scale may not be moving, but I'm betting you look smaller!

Also, check out this great article by one of our moderators, Maggie. It's called The Scale is a Cheat and a Liar. Great to read every once in a while to readjust your perspective.

Congrats again on your success!
