| I have been on induction for six days and couldn't believe my eyes when I got on the scale today and saw that I was down 10 lbs! I am very excited and very motivated. This site is great. I have learned so much from just reading the posts.I feel so good with lots of energy and plan on starting an excersise plan. Any suggestion in how to start? I have another question. I'm taking a multi-vitamin with extra B vitamins and minerals as well as vitamin C and calcium. Are these sufficient? |

| contgrats on your losses! you're doing terrific. on exercise, i think the most important thing is to find stuff you like and don't worry too much about how much or what it is up front. it doesn't matter too much as long as you do SOMETHING. i started out with the leslie sandstone walk away the pounds tapes, did the belly dancing dvd's, and now, i'm in tae kwan do classes with daughter. (which is FABOULOUS exercise, by the way.) i also did a little walking and a touch of biking. mostly though, i just MOVE more often and am perkier. do what you like and whatever you do, DON'T make it a chore. it has to fit into your life, just like the eating does. |

| Super Job!!! Keep up the hard work, with the exercise--do something you like to do and can put in your lifestyle without having to make any more changes--the other thing is that it HAS to be something you like to do!!! If you hate tennis--tennis is not the thing to add, even if it is something you think you can make time for--it will become a chore and you won't do it. . .trust me!!!

| Thank-you everyone for the words of encouragement and support. I am so impressed by how good I feel over all and how muchenergy I have with out the massive amounts of bread pasta and potatoes I used to eat. I'm going camping for the week-end and am taking all kinds of protien to eat. I have a couple of questions. I work afternoons and although I am eating three meals a day when I get home I am hungry so I have been having something to eat when I get home around 11pm. Should I be concerned about eating so late. Also I love tomatoes but wonder if I should be eating them on induction. Another concern I have is about salad dressing. I've been checking the labels and noticed that some of them contain sugar. One more question. I have been using the Ketostix and getting a reading between 40 and 80 mg. which is between moderate and heavy. Is there an optimum reading for the ketones in my reading? I wonder if I should be trying to get the max. darkest colour. Again this website is great I have already picked up so much info from reading the posts. I'm not on a diet anymore I have adopted a new WOL.

| Kraft makes a wonderful low-nocarb dressing called CarbWell, and it's no more expensive than the "real" stuff. I want to give you a few words of advice since you're new:STAY ON THIS PLAN AND DO NOT GET OFF IT! The first time a person begins this WOE, the losses are almost always lots better than their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. try. Each time you start over (after being totally off for a while) this WOE becomes less and less effective in MOST people. And, read the book. All of it. And ask all the questions you need to here.

| Well as far as the ketostixs, as long as you get some tint of pink, it's ok. They say being in ketosis is like being pregnant, either you are or your not. The changes in the darkness of the stick color can have to do with a number of things. Exercise level, water intake, the food you ate before you tested, etc. It's normal for that to fluctuate. Don't let that be your focus in this WOL. Alot of people don't even use those sticks. Keep in mind that people have had great success with Atkins, and never once turned a ketone sticks color. As for the tomatoes, they are fine in induction. Just make sure you count your carbs for them and eat them in moderation because the carbs in them can add up quick. Alot of dressings do contain sugar. Those you do want to steer clear of. Carb Well dressings are great. I use them. I buy the italian and the ceasar. I've noticed though, with the ranch dressing, carb well is 0 carb, but Hidden Valley regular ranch is only 1 carb per serving. I myself would prefer the hidden valley for only 1 extra carb. The Carb Well dressings do come in handy for a sub for the more sugary dressings. I do agree with Maxibee about sticking to the plan and not going off. That is soo important. You can really mess up your metabolism if you go off the plan and continuously try and restart. I'm on my one and only attempt at Low Carbing. I have not gone off my plan at all. Have not had any high carb foods. I wouldn't go back to my old way of eating for nothing. This WOL is much too wonderful and healthy. You've made a great choice for yourself and you health by choosing a low carb WOL. Your body will thank you. I'm sure your feeling wonderful too. Keep up the good work, and be sure to come back here anytime you have questions or need any help at all. We're all in this together to help each other. Good Luck. |

| On the Ketostix--NO don't work towards the darkest color--it is kind of like you are pregnant--either you are in ketosis or you are not and the darkest color often suggests you may not be getting your water in as it would be more that your urine was more concentrated than a true reading in that case. if you register it at all you are burining fat and don't need to worry. YOu also cast of ketones in your perspiration and breath and probably other ways too so they may not all be going through your urine to be detected. I would go ahead and have a snack as long as you are not stalling the weight loss--I have a snack with my pills at around 8pm every night and have lost fine so far--almost 60 lbs so if it is working--don't fix it!!!

| sean- the energy's great, ain't it? that's one of the coolest things. i wouldn't want to go back to eating the old wayeven if it wouldn't make me fat again, 'cause i feel too darn good now! on the eating, it's true that many folks avoid late night eating because they find it's helpful. however, your schedule is later because of your work time. it's important to eat when you're hungry. as long as you're feeling good and the weight is coming off, you're doing great. on the tomatoes, i dunno off the top of my head. somebody else will i'm sure. i would say, though, if you don't have the atkins book to refer to, get it! even if you think you pretty much know the way it works, it's a very helpful reference and you massively increase your chances for long-term success by having and using the book. on salad dressing, some people do avoid all sugars. some don't worry about salad dressing or items with small amounts of sugar. your milage may vary. personally, i eat regular salad dressing and don't worry about it, because it's worth it to me to not have to worry about finding special dressing AND it doesn't stimulate cravings or slow weight loss for me. i believe it talks about salad dressing in the book as well. frankly, i'm too lazy to get up and go grab it. and finally, on the keto-sticks, as they say, either you are or you ain't in ketosis- like being pregnant. no "sorta." people's bodies react differently. some never show on the sticks but are losing. some drink lots of water and so thier "output" is diluted. it's not really about what the sticks show, as they are just another tool to reinforce your understanding of the progress you're making. bottom line: you're making healthy food choices, you are losing weight and you feel great! relax about trying to make "perfect" choices and keep doing what's working for you. you're right that you're making lifestyle changes. as time goes on, it will be absolutely natural for you to eat this way, so just let it flow, baby. let it flow and you'll find your groove. |

| Thank-you very much for the prompt answers to my inquiries. I do have the DNDR and have read it twice and use it for the carb gram counter. As i matter of fact I carry it with me always. I just wieghed in and another pound dropped for a total of 11 lbs at day 8 of induction.Nothing else I've tried has been this effective or left me me feeling so satiated after I eat. I don't feel deprived at. The reason for my confusion over tomatoes is that the are listed as aa acceptable veggie but the carb counter lists 2.5 inches at 9 carbs which I thought was high for induction. The book also reccomends oil and vinegar for a dressing which I find kinda boring. I like creamy dressings:ranch is my fave. Thanks again for your help and support. Likt the goddess said I'm not giving up something that makes me feel this well.
