Cool olives and fat stripper

hey again,

I'm back for more...

first things first, can I eat green pimento stuffed olives on induction? that ones been bugging me, i know i can eat olives, but i wasn;t sure about the pimento.

secondly, i just found some LA Fat Stripper pills in my box of tricks, would they be worth a try?

right, while I'm here, I just want a moan.

I am having alot of trouble with people I know, and their "just one night off wouldn't hurt" I KNOW BLOODY WELL IT WILL!!! (sorry to shout) esp, people who bring me in chocolate and coke to work, and who get offended TIME AND TIME AGAIN, when i tell them that I just cant do it. (one woman I work with, lovely as she is, is determined to break my WOE)

I did really well in the first two weeks, but then I stalled and gave up trying, then I got depressed , and when i get depressed I find it really hard to get a grip on self control, and the people who try and lure me with chocolate and ice cream always win. I know i am weak willed, but I am ok when i see the scale drop. the moment it pauses, i crumble. I've tried getting rid of the scale, but there are 3 pairs i pass at work every day (I only weigh in the morning)
I forgot to mention too that as I am nearly the youngest (18) at work, I have aquired lots of 'mothers' who don't approve of atkins, luckily my real mum does approve and has been a rock lately. (thanx mum x)

so to conclude.... AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!! I REFUSE to stop trying, I WILL do it. i wont let the b******s get me down.

thanx, i feel better now.

I looked up the carb count on fitday and 10 medium pimiento stuffed olives have
.733 g carb with .45 g fiber. Almost nothing! So I'd say go ahead and eat them but with the same salt caution you should use for dill pickles.

It's good to rant on these boards!
You need to rant in the faces of those diet saboteurs also. Don't ask me why but every diet I have ever been on has had it's share of these "oh one won't hurt you" a*****s.

If you've already bought these fat stripper pills I guess you can save them for especially caloric high fat meals. But if not, save your money for veggies. I don't trust these carb or fat absorbers. I think they trap the nutrients from your foods as well as the fats or carbs. Again on a rare occasion it's probably okay.

Congratulations on your resolve!

YEah, the guys at work the other day ordered six pizzas and kept prodding me to "Eat some! Eat some!" I kept telling them: "No, thanks," but they kept shoving it towards me.

Finally, I just told them this: "I cannot eat that. Unless you wanna pick me up from a slobbering sugar fit when I've passed out on the floor, then quit telling me to eat it."

Well, they backed off with apologies and have never enticed me since. I don't tell them it's because of low carb. I tell them that I can't eat certain foods because it messes with my insulin levels. They are keen to back off then.

Yes, tell them you have a medical condition and will DIE if you eat that stuff!

I am lucky in that I do not go to an office every day. (I work out of my home). But I do go into other people's homes and offices. I am putting Security Film on a church and you would not believe the amount of candy, cookies and cakes that are around that place. One exceptionally large woman brought a plate of cookies to another exceptionally large woman and invited her to try some. I just thought to myself: "Ha! No Cookies for This Bod!" When she asked me if I wanted some, I just smiled and said I could not eat sugar. She looked at me like I was really deprived, but in actuality, she is the one who is deprived of a healthy and acceptable-looking body!

Hang in there! (I eat a few green stuffed olives, too).

KC, Last week someone came in to our office to borrow the copier. I kidded her by telling her the last guy bought us Krispy Kreme, and then immediately told her I don't eat Krispy Kreme any more. She looked at me with a puzzled look and said "You don't?" So I told her I don't eat sugar anymore, and the response I got was something like "how sad"... like I was really deprived. Well, I had the same thought you had and told her, "Actually, I'm much better off!"

Isn't it nice when we can finally think (and respond) this way? Praise the Lord!

So, Munch... hang in there! You will get there! Try to think of sugar as EVIL, because it really is. It is NOT good for you. It depresses you immune system. Nevermind the fact that it helps you put on pounds.

A really good book to read is Johnny Bowden's "Living the Low Carb Life: From Atkins to The Zone". It is AWESOME!!! It explains the history of LC and also the science (in an easy-to-read, understandable way). This book is what convinced me that sugar and refined carbs are EVIL. (now, if I can just remember that ALL the time ).

Anyway, I'll say a prayer for you. If you can just get on this WOE and make it a WOL at your age, you'll be so much better off than those of us "older" folks. I'm 37 and I sure wish I'd done this sooner. But... better late than never!

I know it's frustrating and hard to deal with your well-meaning "mums" pushing toxic foods at you.

Try kidding around with them. When they urge you to eat junk food, just laugh and say something like,

"No, thanks... now, if you'd offer me some nice stuffed celery, devilled eggs, or cucumbers and sour cream - well, ~that~ I'd eat happily!"

That kind of gives them the message that you are ~not~ starving yourself - you'd willingly eat something healthy. Hopefully, they would get the contrast about what you are willing to eat: cake = NO! Veggies (etc.) = YES!

Oh girlfriend I HEAR YA!!

"one night won't kill you"

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALY Sparky - care to tell me what numbers to play in the lotto while you're at it?????

Stay strong honey - the UK isn't as pro low carb as we Yanks - yet.

Keep saying no and if they really push, tell them you understand that they mean well, but that they are seriously doing you harm instead - push back a little!

You know - it's funny. I have to eat in restaurants a lot and I have begun telling servers that I have a health/insulin issue and have noticed that I get much better choices and results from the servers/chef. It's too bad, but seems like being on a low carb diet is capricious or makes one "difficult". I agree with Alida - make it a health issue and they'll probably leave you alone. There is a weird knee jerk reaction from people regarding Atkins - a stigma that has been around despite all the research.
What makes it even more complex for me is all the bad stuff Atkins Nutritionals is pushing on us - it's so out of integrity with the philosophy. I guess ol Dr A was ruled by the almighty buck after all and to hell with real nutrition! Hmmm - seems like I needed to get a rant in!!! Cheers - Debra

Hey Munchaholic! Hang in there! We've all been there. You just need to become as educated as you can about the LC WOE, so you can "push back" as someone else said.

Also, try reading this article "When I Can't Becomes I Don't" by our moderator, Maggie. It's a great way to think about this WOE, and maybe that's just what you need to say to your other "mums" - "I don't eat that." (Or as Maggie would say... "No thanks. I don't eat that s***!")
Keep posting here to vent - it's also a great way to keep your hands busy so they won't put unwanted food into your mouth!

munch- first of all, having trouble staying on track when people around you are trying to GET you off track does NOT mean you're "weak-willed" or lazy or lacking willpower or any other of those negative self-assements you may think to toss out there. fact is, those negative self-assessments do far more damage than the off-plan eating. it means on this specific occassion, you choose to eat off-plan. sometimes it can be tough to stay on track, and moreso when others are discouraging you from doing it. but it's all about choices, and the choices you make most consistently will come home to roost.

tell yourself you're weak-willed long enough, you'll find yourself fulfilling that prophecy. on the other hand, telling yourself you're dedicated, focused and bound to be successful can be your self-fullfilling prophecy, too. which would you prefer?

i would suggest a few minor alterations in your thinking. avoid the "i can't" syndrome, and i reccomend maggies article as well, mentioned elsewhere in the thread. when you say you "can't," then you reinforce the idea that you're missing out, you're deprived, you're sadly punishing yourself for past eating behavior. when you say you "don't" eat X food item, however, you're sending the message-- to yourself AND others-- that you've made the choice to eat this way, you're making the decisions, you're in control, you're in the driver's seat.

i don't care how old you are, or how old your coworkers are. they DON'T control what you put into your mouth: you do. as long as they think there's a chance they're gonna sway you, they will continue to try. this is kind of a weird dynamic, but i've personally found that many times, people want you to continue with your bad habits, seemingly to help them avoid facing their own troublesome eating habits.

however, once it becomes quite clear to them that you insist they respect your right to eat what you think is best for you, i am betting they will totally back off.

keep focused on your needs, your goals, and your successes. as long as you are improving your health and your life, you are successful. and you can have even more success by making healthy choices. so hang in there and keep working on improving those choices!

Ok, I just gotta put my 2 cents in here. First of all, I agree totally with what everyone else has said. You cannot keep telling yourself your weak, and expect to be strong with temptations present themselves. If you believe it, you will act it and be it. So do not except the weakness you believe you have. Just say "NO, I'm gonna be strong, and I'm gonna resist all temptation at all cost." If you mess up and give in to your co workers, do not be so hard on yourself. Don't put yourself down for it. Just take it as a lesson learned and move on. It is a personal choice what you put into your mouth. Your co-workers do not control that or make that choice for you. Tell yourself that. You always have a choice, even if they are all eating up the junk and the sugar. You can choose not to. Just be strong, keep your head up, and don't be your own judge and jury lol. You can do this! We all can. We have the power to help ourselves and make our bodies as healthy as they can be. We need to do that for us, or we would have never started this WOL. Just remind yourself of your reasons for starting this plan. Think about it, do you really wanna be like them? Unhealthy and with diabetes at a young age? Of course you don't. And now you have the tools to change it. So do it and don't look back. You health depends on it.

Oh sweetie! I know the feeling of having so many extra "mums" around - here in Japan I have several lovely and well-intentioned ladies who are always trying to feed me. But when I explained that I didn't want to be unhealthy like my father, they began to understand. (Keep in mind I live in a country where they eat rice with EVERY meal!)

I think with some people, their reasons for wanting to sabotage this WOE may not stem from maliciousness - rather it may be a nurturing instinct to take care of people, to feed them. HOWEVER, once you have made it clear that you do not eat certain foods for health reasons - and they still don't back off - then they are just being plain rude!

Hang tough!
