| Okay, help me out here - I've read Atkin's book - I went away this weekend and one of my friends has started South Beach. She told me that you can have alot more stuff on South Beach than you can on Atkins and that after I do induction, I should switch to South Beach - I don't have the book - can anyone give me a quick tutorial on the difference between the two - help me decide! | I think a great book for comparing points of the different plans is Laura Richcards' _The Secret to Low Carb Success_. I've lent my copy out so I cannot check what it says about these two plans. But, I did remember a news post on LCE that talked about South Beach vs other plans: http://www.lowcarbeating.com/bb/showthread.php?t=9435

| A friend of mine joked that it was Atkins without the weight loss. But I've known a few people who lost weight on it. The first phase is very strict but second and third phases are much less strict than Atkins. Johnny Bowden's book, Living the Low Carb Life, gives it his highest rating - 5 stars- the same he gives to Atkins. If you feel like switching, by all means do so. You can always switch back to Atkins or another low carb plan if you aren't happy with the results. Meanwhile check through old and new posts to the South Beach Diet forum onthis website. |

| Ditto above advice. I think it would really depend on how many carbs your body can deal with and whether or not you thrive on higher fat. Some people's bodies do better with a few carbs and less fat, others do better with more fat and less carbs. Myself, I do better with lower carbs (under 50 a day) but with higher fat. A comfortable day for me "fatwise" is around 70% of daily calories coming from fat. That is much too high for SB so I wouldn't do well on that plan. This is also why Zone really isn't for me. I just need more than 30-40% fat in my diet every day. I would try it for 2-3 weeks and see how you feel. Figuring out what works best for you is extremely important to finding something that will work for the rest of your life.
