| I was on two weeks and only lost 2 or 3 pounds, well I got discouraged than I got into control. I had almost no carbs in the way of the illegal stuff, but then I had salads for lunch with egg and cheese and then at night I had veggies with salad. My theory is I ate too many legal carbs. I also had half and half in my decaf coffee instead of heavy cream. Today I had a gyro for lunch, but I am making a flourless pot roast for lunches plus I have lots of hamburger meat in freezer. My husband also brought veggies at the store. The local store had a buy one get one free birds eye vegetables. For lunches I will have my meat with 1/2 cup of vegetable and my snack will be pork rinds and not peanuts.I also have celery and cream cheese in the house and I plan on boiling some eggs. I DID lose inches, but that is not good enough for me. I am my own worst critic. I am also going to record Gilad and Sharon Mann exercise shows and I am going to start exercising :jump: Maggie1 |

| Hi Maggie and welcome to LCE! If I might suggest?? You're done with the 2 week induction - ADD carbs into your menu now. I didn't lose that much myself on induction (it happens) - but when I started adding in more veggies and fruit, the weight started coming off. Eating too few carbs dosen't really help the weight loss. Your body needs the fuel to burn off the unwanted pounds. I'm starting week 10 and average between 30 - 40 carbs a day. Here's a sample menu, I hope it helps Breakfast coffee w/ h. cream 2 eggs scrambled with 1 ounce cheese and sauteed mushrooms Lunch pan seared pork chop creamed spinach snack almonds strawberries Dinner roasted chicken, green beans and faux tatoes and I drink enough water to float the Navy!

| Maggie, Just like April Rose, I also had a very slow start. Partly age and mostly eating those #@$% bars and shakes. Once I got on the real program (all natural foods), I did start losing, but only about 1.5/week. My choice. So, your menus sound good, especially NOT eating peanuts! Also, go lite on the Pork Rinds. Switch to heavy cream for now, and make sure you drink at least half your weight in water per day. You also mentioned you "Almost had no carbs in the way of illegal stuff." Well, if you had bars and shakes, that may have been your problem. Also, even the smallest bit of an "illegal" carb can stymie weight loss. But it sounds like you're heading in the right direction, now. Keep your spirits up! This WOE (way of eating) does work! Glance over some of the topics on this site. It will help you. And visit often and let us know how you're doing.

| sounds like good advice. When it comes to any diet, you have to find what works for you, as an individual. Hang in there.

| Hey everyone thanks for the feedback. I now know why i post on the board. It does help. I am looking forward to my next week or two and I will let you know what happens. I might even keep you posted. I am 53 and started out June 24/2003 at 219. I am now down to 189/191 depending on the day. My goal short term is 181 was there in "99" after lo carbing. I have decided this will be something I am going to have to do the rest of my life and I will have shortcomings. I need to go to bed for now, and thanks a bunch SP |

| I'm with KC. I had a slow start in part due to low carb bars and shakes. But also because I started on a Curves and have now switched to Atkins after reading the book and Curves lets you eat more "free food" veggies the first two weeks. You should join us in the Halloween Challenge. That could be good for your short term goal. I helps to post each week.

| Maggie, I have also read that if you have low carbed in the past, then went off the "diet", loss is slower the 2nd or 3rd time around. But it does still work! 219 to 189 . . . that's great! Please do keep posting. We all mean it ~from the heart~ when we invite you to share your LC experience with us. So none of this: "I might even keep you posted." !!

| LOL Alida!! Maggie, she's right. I'm a returnee to Atkins myself. Getting back on this board and posting regularly has been what keeps me from making mistakes and on track! I think being a returnee may be the reason why I didn't lose so much during induction. But in total? I've lost 25 pounds in 9 weeks - slow start or not, the weight is coming off and I feel 100% better!!

| incidently maggie, while i understand your thinking that "inches aren't good enough" for you, i'd say boot that kind of thinking right out of your head. as many folks here can attest, your body WILL lose weight at it's own pace and in it's own way, and the sooner you can get comfortable with that, the easier it will be for you. pounds and inches sometimes don't come off in step with one another. if you are... 1. eating healthy food 2. watching your carb intake 3. loosing weight OR inches or at least maintaining 4. feeling good then you ARE doing things right dollars to donuts. rather than potentially setting arbitrary scale readings as a sign of acceptable success, why not look to how your life is going, how you feel, how your clothes fit, and all the combination of benefits you're getting to judge your success instead? or better yet in my opinion, anywho, is my definition of success: if you are actively working to improve your health and your life, you ARE ALREADY successful. you're just working on getting the results after that. | I second that one, Goddess. I have been on so many diets all of my 46 yrs and have been so many weights. I am just now learning that I can shift my paradigm of what defines success in this WOE. I don't own a scale and haven't even done my monthly weigh in because I no longer care - my clothes have gone from tight to fitting to loose to not wearable so baggy and I call that success. Comments from people around me is a measure of success. Most importantly, what I see when I look in the full length [I used to be a shoulders & above only] mirror is my best measure of success - angles and bones emerging that I knew were there but had no visible proof, a waistline [who knew] and muscle definition slowly developing. Loving what is there in front of me right now is the most important success. I am so grateful to this WOE and the good health it has brought me. The actual numbers on the scale are secondary. Celebrate those inches gone - that's huge success! Cheers-Debra |

I agree that the measure of success cannot be solely defined by the scale! Last year, I would joke with my friends saying, "I don't want to lose weight." (eyebrows fly up) "I want to lose volume!" LOL! If you are losing fat, becoming leaner, healthier, and smaller, you are having great success. Who cares about a number?

| IF losing inches isn't good enough -- I don't know what is--yeah--it is nice to see those numbers drop on that scale--BUt those numbers aren't waht everyone else sees, it is the inches coming off that everyone sees/notices. I stalled all summer--stuck at 178.5 for almost 3 complete months--but in that time I went from a tight size 14 to a size 12 and never lost a pound. . .now I have lost 11 more and those 14s are falling off all over and the 12s are quite loose but it isn't just the scale changing--though mostly right now it is--the inches will catch up in time--that is what I wait for--I love what everyone notices and no one notices when the scale moves unless I let them see me in the bathroom undressed they can't see the scale move! Anyway, welcome and keep posting here. . .give suggestions and help and receive the same from the rest of us!

| hey maggie, welcome! I think what goddess said is so important and so true. Since I have a lot of weight to lose, I'm staying off the scale. I know if I let the scale play games with me, I'm bound to self-sabotage.
