on the family, i KNOW where you are at, man. my family had a rough time adjusting to the wieght i lost. at first, they thought, "oh, this is a phase." then they realized i had actually lost enough that you could see a difference. THEN they realized that i had lost even more, and i wasn't going back to the old life where, as i like to say, my fridge was a shrine to little debbie. part of it, i think, is that as long as you're the "fattie" of the group, then they don't have to acknowledge their own food choices, which may not be great, but maybe not as bad as yours. at least, that's how it was for me.
i'll tell you one thing, though. once my family got the "get used to it 'cause i AIN'T stopping now" speech, they did straighten up, and after a little while longer, they all ended up going low carb (or sorta low carb, for youngest daughter) with me. older daughter has lost about 65 pounds, husband has lost about 40, and even carb-loving youngest has lost about 25! you hold your ground and they will come around! |
