Default Slowly but Surely

I've been eating lc for 13 weeks and have not been on a scale in 6 weeks. I'm too heavy for most scales. But I went to my Doctor's office today and I've lost a total of 27 lbs. So when you break it down I'm only loosing 2 lbs a week. But Its Comming Off! I have not been exercising daily. If I did that I'm sure it would come off faster. So for all other newbies out there like me, just have some patience and stick to your low carb plan. And avoid your scale! If I had one I think I would have quit by now. LOL

Super job!!! Keep it up. . .Exercise is necessary, when you feel you can, try to sneak some in and it will help "Shrink" your body in other ways too! The muscle tone that exercise brings will help tighten the skin as you lose too!

Slow and steady wins the race! Keep up the good work, and as Huskers says, "try to get in some exercise" as well.

hey ed. never say "only 2 lbs a week!" ONLY 2 lbs a week consistently gets the weight gone my friend. in fact (wactch out, goddess bragging again!)...in FACT, i have lost 96 pounds in less than a year by "only" averaging 2 lbs a week.

on exercise, well of course it's healthy. don't look at it as the magic e-ticket ride to instant weight loss, though. look at is as part of a healthy lifestyle, and do stuff you like and count everything you do as exercise. which means it doesn't need to be a sweaty, painful and unpleasant affair. in fact, you need to do stuff you like or you WON't! one thing i hope everybody takes from low-carb: losing weight doesn't need to be PAINFUL! so take a walk in a lovely area, dance around the house to your favorite music, chase after the dog, roll around the floor with the kids, i don't care what, just move.

most off all, though, celebrate your accomplishments and LIFE and that will get you farther than anything else, my friend!

I'm at about the same point as you ed. But I do get on the scale. Though not every day at least once a week. I got a large capacity scale for my birthday, I asked for it, it wasn't a subtle hint.

I love the 2 pound a week loss. I started this WOE hoping for a big loss in the beginning but didn't get one. Now I realize that I am losing at a good pace. I like you need to start the exercise for a healthier life. If I can keep up 2 pounds a week then I'll reach 299 by next summer. Which would be so great.

With a few of us over 300 maybe I should start a race to 299 challenge.

ED, what a simple, straightforward, and heartening message! TWO pounds a week is fantastic. Visit often and share your story with us.

But exercise . . . that once dreaded word . . . can become a pleasant experience when you learn it really helps. I am not talking about the sweat stuff. Like Goddess mentioned above, a lovely walk, a little dance when a favorite song comes on (I like the twist and some rock and roll!) ALL contributes to movement!

BTW, Goddess, FANTASTIC pic! You are a stunner.

Ditto what's been said. Two pounds per week is exactly where you should be...you're doing great! Think about it...at that rate, you'll lose over 100 pounds in a year; a HUGE difference, right? A slow, steady loss will allow your body to adjust and will keep you from getting saggy. You're on the right track!!
And I agree, Goddess; your new avatar is awesome!! What a flattering photo!

Thanks for all the encouragement! I do think my progress 2lbs a week is good and I know if I did not start this WOE I would still be 400lbs and going up. A lot of people including myself get the idea from reading the fifty or so sucess stories on Atkins.com that it's normal to drop 100lbs in 6 months. I'm sure there are millions of people eating low carb and having results like myself, Goddess, and Cushie. That being said, I am not trying my hardest to loose the weight and I can do better if I make some changes. Walking daily is what is the first change I want to do. I make a start at it, but then fall off during the week. I have some great days and mostly good days at this WOE. I can't say I ever had a really bad day. A really bad day would be starting off eating a box of donuts for breakfast, funnel cake for lunch and a banna split for dinner and washing it all down with a case of cola thoughtout the day. It never happens! So if I had a day in one week that I had the banna split one night it never gets me down thinking I'm failing and can't make this diet work. Most days I stick to the plan and it's easy, and it's working! Hey Goddess, nice new avatar you look smart and sexy ;-)

Ed, I wanted to tell you a story where I lost 90 pounds in six months. I wasn't eating much and was working out seven days a week for two to three hours a day. It can be done. But back then I had nothing going on in my life. I had the time to go to the gym for three hours and the diets pills to keep my appetite low. Now I am keeping my appetite down purely by ketosis and I feel much better mentally and physically. I don't have the gym time anymore though so that's why I think my weight loss isn't as good as it could be. I just started doing aerobics in the evenings but it will take some time to wrok up my stamina. I could be doing exercise right now while DS is taking a nap, but I choose not to. So really it's my fault if it doesn't get done. Like you I am not doing everything that should be done but I am working up to it little by little.

I think they do put more incredible success stories up for all to see when you visit the atkins or any other weight loss site because those are the ones people want to see. They happen but more often it's slow and steady and maintaining which is even more important. (That will be my biggest challenge this time.)

Noel, were both doing good on this WOE I to am not eating as much as I use to and I'm not downing a bag of chips or other junk food before going to sleep as I use to. Now I drink a glass of water and maybe eat a slice of lunch meat and go to sleep. Some nights I have nothing at all. Its such a change. It's kind of weird to get use to. Old bad habbits changing. Even forgetting to eat dinner sometimes seems so odd. I had no idea the carbs were having the effect of making me hungry all my life. I wish I did this 20 years ago. Oh well, that was then this is now. I have a 20 year class reunion next summer I would really like to drop a lot of weight before then. I finaly feel that I'm in control of my hunger. But the changes with in yourself and the way family and friends treat you when you make a big life changes like dropping so much weight can mess with your mind. It's funny, my family want's me to be healthy but at the same time they kind of expect me to be the fat guy and like changing that will make me a different person. No one likes change I guess. Oh well, big changes are comming!
