Lightbulb Regaining focus

I realized for the first time today how important visualizing goals can be. When I hit my goal to be a size 14, I kinda slacked off because this is where I have always felt comfortable and I've always felt really sexy. Though I still want to wear a 12 (9/10 at the least) I'm moving there very slow. I don't want to buy any more clothes in size 14 becuase that's just wasting money. ANYHOW becoming "determined", again, (almost obsessed) with eating right I've been thinking about it alot just what my body is going to feel like, look like, and the different things I'll feel more comfortable doing (I'd REALLY like to wear a bikini one day) there's not a lot I don't feel comfortable doing right now. Another thing is I want to make sure that I don't develop diabetes before it's too late. SO to anyone who's trying to get back on...rechannel the determination you had when you first started. Write down a list of your goals and reasons that you are trying to change your woe in the first place! I haven't been able to get my hands back on my book, so I haven't been able to use that as the motivational tool that so many here do.

Keep working at it--my body likes size 14s. . .IT took me all summer to get into a 12 and now I am almost into a 10, but my body is fighting it big time!

I have been in unintentional maintenance for the last few months too. I hit size 10, and because it felt so comfortable, I just slacked off and coasted. Adult onset diabetes is rampant on both sides of my family so initially that was my concern and what brought me to LC. I am at the age that it tends to hit. So far so good. If what I am doing with LC doesn't keep it at bay I don't know what will.

I'd like to get serious about watching what I eat again and be a bit more strict with myself but the urgency seems to have left me. If anyone has any ideas on how to get the old committment back I'd like to hear them.

Sue that is so right on!!!!

Rave, I'm right there with ya. My body seems to be VERY comfortable in the 140's. I'm fine with it too, but gosh darnit, I would like to see the 130's. I've been coasting along in the lower 140's for months now. I probably just need to do re-induction again, but don't want to give up some things I've come to rely on. It's my own mental struggle, but I'm not upset enough about it to really do anything. I'm just too darn comfortable right now. So...............here I'll stay for awhile. *sigh* But that's okay with me. I know I'm much healthier now than I've ever been in my life.

I'm right there with you, Rave. I have the same family history. I was pre-diabetic when I started this way of eating six years ago. My A1c's returned to normal within a few months of eating this way and have remained so to this day. I no longer have any doubt that this will remain true.

Lightbulb Re: Regaining focus

Family members dying of it can give you some additional focus too, my aunt died last year and was in renal failure and she was also going blind, she'd lost just about all of her hair. My grandmother just happened to die today and she also lived with diabetes for a looong time. She's not ever had any hair that I can remember. She had some problems these past 2 weeks right after the last hurricane and I know that most if it was due to the diabetes. I am ok though everyone, so far at least but I think I dealt with most of it last week because I knew it was coming. Maybe it hasn't set in yet but who knows I guess I'll see. I hope I didn't depress anyone!

Oh, Tia.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad you're ok, but I know that it requires some time to really feel better. Just take it a bit at a time and know that it does become easier to handle with time.

{{{hugs}}}

Tia,
I'm so sorry for your loss. It is still hard to lose a grandparent even if you tried to prepare yourself; I did the same thing when the prognosis didn't look good for my grandma. It still hurts.
(((hugs))) and prayers for you and your family.

tia- as others have said, i'm sorry for your loss...

on the other stuff you were talking about, i SO know what you mean. i have been the same way...i got down so much further than i have in...wait, EVER!--that i've gotten a bit lazy. visiualzation got me this far, and i know it can get me just a bit more, where i want to go...honestly, i'd like to just feel it there and see what it's like not to be overweight AT ALL...diabetes was also the last kick in the pants for me to get serious about my weight...or at least, the threat of diabetes, which runs on both sides of my family. i've been told 2 or 3 times that if i didn't loose the poundage, that was my future. it's not the one i wanted, so i changed it!

hang in and hang out here, too. it will be a big help, i'm telling ya!

Thanks everyone {all hugs received}

Diabetes for me is the scariest thing in the world which is why all of my boys are eating right. They have rice with dinner but maybe 1/4 cup and if they want more to eat they only get meat or vegetables. Where can you find Atkins for kids so that I can get them started right? They all drink ACV only 2 of them don't know they are!

Good for you Tia that you are trying to get your kids on the right track with eating. I been trying to do the same with mine. My problem is that my other family members have not been helping me with that. They give my kids junk. We're working on that though so hopefully soon, my whole house will be eating better. I'm sorry about your loss. I wish you luck in your goal to get smaller then a 14. I haven't seen a size 14 since 7th grade. lol. That'll be nice when I get there. I too want to get much smaller then that though. my goal size is a 6, but I am short and have a small frame. Anyhow, good luck and come back soon and let us know how your doing.
