    Thumbs up What up folks

    Yo, I'm new here
Hey friends. Just about ready to go on Atkins, but still a little skeptical about it. I'm gathering information at this point. I have the book, and I just bought this great DVD from Walmart that just came out. I'm curious about the lethargy and weakness of induction. What are some of your experiences? Lemme hear ya!

    Welcome, taylorwilix.

I felt like hell the first three days or so, then much better than I did prior to starting induction. Feeling better continued right into OWL. I continue to feel wonderful to this day.

Hope you'll make yourself at home!

my major symptoms were a severe headache (I tried giving up coffee too) and immense tiredness for about 3 or 4 days. Since I work at home I would crawl into bed every couple of hours and curl up in the fetal position and rest half an hour. But after that I felt so good!

    What is the dvd about?

I felt like hell for a full three days, carb withdrawals, tiredness, fuzzy headed, and i was soooo hungry. I ate almost constantly during the first days of induction, or so it seems, but it was cheese, turkey, hb eggs, etc. It was bad BUT on the 4th day, I had energy I thought I'd never have again. I lost 12 lbs in induction.

I started sleeping better, my mood improved, my appetite was supressed, my skin cleared up, i could go on and on. The good stuff continues everyday I work my plan.

The hell that was the first few days of induction was WELL worth it. My advice would be to be prepared before you begin induction. Cook some hb eggs ahead of time, hamburger patties, make sure you have salad veggies in the house, whatever else is legal. You probably won't feel like a shoppign trip for the first few days.

    Good luck and welcome!

Welcome, TW! This is a good place to come with your questions about the real world, day-to-day experience people have with low carb eating. The folks here are very supportive and helpful.

I'm often subject to fatigue anyway, but I remember feeling energized during that whole early period when I first started low carb.

However, I started with a hit-or-miss version Carb Addicts, then switched to Atkins 3 weekls later after I learned more about low carb eating. The Atkins program was easier for me (less food cravings) and quite effective. I still had sugar cravings on Carb Addicts, and I didn't after switching to Atkins.

So, I doubt that I did more than 3 days of Atkins-style induction, as I was simply transitioning from another plan. Other than getting past the sugar cravings, I felt good - no fatigue, no crankies - on both plans.

I was ready to "die" the first about 4 days, but I woke up feeling wonderful on the 5th or 6th morning--I an't remember which day it was, but once I had switchedd over ot burning fat instead of carbs for energy, I felt awesome! I was having serious sugar withdrawls and after the first few days that was over and I haven't been so much as sick but once in a full 9 1/2 months--talk about a switch. . .I used to catch everything. . .I sleep better too!

Welcome Taylor - glad you're joining us.

Personally, the first day I had a bad headache because of sugar withdrawals. I blew it a couple of times - once badly into the sugar so when I went back on I prepared ahead by elimating sugar first but only bringing other carbs down somewhat for a couple of days. Then I started induction and no headache

I also prepared food ahead - I like chicken thighs and angel eggs (some people call them deviled eggs but I think they look more like angels than devils - have been angels on this diet, too!). For the first three days I allowed myself to eat them whenever I wanted. After getting into ketosis I lost my hunger (be sure to get enough fat - it is what satisfies the appetite) and no longer needed / wanted to snack. I rarely snack now. I am very satisfied with my meals and I eat much, much less than when I'm eating carbs. The cravings are pretty well gone - rarely do I get a sweet craving. When I do I eat 11 roasted almonds (not on induction - use after first two weeks). 11 is one carb and roasting brings out their sweetness. I usually end my dinner with roasted almonds - takes away my desire for a sweet dessert!

Also, Da Vince syrups help too.

Bet you will do just great and make it through the first few days.

I was a true carb addict and always was sleepy after a big carb laden lunch so the sleepimess was not a big change for me. I was fuzzy for a few days though. That worried me at first. But it passed.

After about a week all symptoms were gone and the cravings for sugary snacks as well. (I use to have at elast one mini candy bar a day at work, sometimes four.) I also lost my appetite. Which was an amazing feat.

After two months I can now make it through work without feeling like taking a nap and I am no longer tired when I get home.

If you can make it through teh induction I think you'll do fine. I was skeptical as well, or I would have tried this a long time ago had I realized how great it was.
