Default Taking measurements without numbers

I'm one of those people who don't want to know if my belly measurements are 34" or 43". I don't want to know the measurements of my thighs, hips or arms either. However, I think it's good to know that I'm losing in those areas.

Instead of using a tape measure, I'm going to buy five or six yards of 3/4" ribbon and I'm going to cut each one to size. That is, I'll run the ribbon around my waist and clip it where the ends meet. Then I'll label it "waist" and stick it in an envelope. I'll do the same thing with my thighs and arms.

Then, every two months or so, I'll pull out those ribbons and I'll use a permanent marker to mark the "new and improved" me. That way, I can see my loss without getting discouraged or feeling miserable about the numbers. After all, even at my goal I'll not be a 36", 24", 34, so why should I have those numbers in my head to compare?

Very clever idea!

Maybe make sure to use a ribbon material that's not prone to stretching over time.

Sounds like a great way to keep track without bumming yourself out over the nubers game.

Great--I wish I had thought of that when I started--would maybe not have been so reluctant to measure, though I am very much a numbers persona nd would have probably measured the ribbon to know for sure what I started at! Just me though. . .I really like the idea!

Melissa - Good idea! I too am one who really doesn't want to see the numbers - I think they would depress me and I don't need that.

More and more I am thinking "way of eating for life"...the weight will come off if I will just be faithful to my life-long commitment...I am using the scale less and less...focusing on just following the plan...no more rush...no more anxiety about the numbers...I have so much, much more peace that it will all work out and eventually I'll be wearing much smaller clothing in my healthier body...health is what is most important to me now...I want more energy, strength, just to feel good in my body again instead of trapped....reading goddess's is having a good effect on me....thanks goddess.

what a terrific idea... i was thinking that clipping the extra off and putting THOSE into the envelope might be a symbolic letting go imagery to hold on to also... gosh darn it.. i may just do that...
