| I live in a small rural town and I can't find soy protein isolate. My local health food store didn't know what I was looking for and as I am new to this also, I didn't either. Is there somewhere online I could order this? |

| Hi Bleschke! Welcome to LCE! Probably some of our better "cooks" will pipe in here . . . I am not sure if SOY protein isolate is the same as WHEAT protein isolate (abbreviated as WPI). But I know you can buy WHEAT protein isolate at: http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/ind...S&Category=288 Good luck! Perhaps you had best wait for an offical answer on the soy vs. wheat! If you do not hear soon, try posting your message under the Cooking threads (scroll down on the main forum page . . . it's in the Special Interests section.

| It's not quite the same. WPI is so glutenous that using it in the cereal, with the flax, too, would get pretty gluey. The brand of soy protein isolate that my local health food stores carry is Fearn 100% soy protein isolate. As an alternative to SPI one could use Whey protein isolate. I don't have brand names here. The thing is to look for a soy (or whey) powdered product that has nothing else added - no flavors, no other ingredients. In this way, you get a very low carb count and nothing to interfere with whatever flavor you choose to eat on any given day. Of course, one could use some other protein powder for the SPI (but, as I indicated, I wouldn't recommend WPI in this context) but choose a flavor that you don't mind having every time and adjust your carb count accordingly, since it will be different than if you use a pure protein product. You can see the nutritional information for SPI at this site: http://www.asasoya.org/Uses/SPI_RefGuide.htm If you browse around the web, you'll see that there are various products that call themselves SPI or WPI, but actually contain more ingredients, giving you much more than a "trace" of carbs per 100 gms. HTH!

| Thanks Maggie! I had a hunch they were not the same, therefore my caveat. No matter how much you think you know . . . there is always more to know!
